How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas is a book written by a journalist named David Bornstein about successful social innovations. David Bornstein is a journalist and author, who specializes in writing about social innovation, which is a style called solution journalism. David Bornstein wrote three books on social entrepreneurship. David was raised in Montreal, Canada and now lives in New York City. He was awarded the 2007 Human Security Award for work in Social Entrepreneurship in October, 2007.
How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas was first published in 2003 and an updated edition was later on released in 2007. The book investigate what we define as social entrepreneur in the modern world. It also gives examples of ordinary people that formed organization centered on making a difference in the world. I enjoyed reading the book because it enlightened my mind with new ways to bring my ideas to life. It also enlightened me by showing me that even one single person can make a surprising difference. Some of the information in this book was new to me but it was very interesting. For example I found the six qualities of Successful Social Entrepreneurs very interesting. In order for one to become a successful social entrepreneurs, one must be willing to self-correct, to share credit, to break free of established structures, to cross disciplinary boundaries, to work quietly and last but not least one also must possess strong ethical impetus. This book also helped me realize that one does not have to be rich or powerful to change the current reality. The book does give me a new insights for my career choice because I’ve always wanted to open a nonprofit organization to help make a difference in the
