1920s: Prohibition Prohibition begin in the United States in January 1920, when the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. constitution went into effect. The twenty first amendment where the ones that banned the prohibition of alcohol. There was four reasons and does reasons are practical, religious, moral, and national mood. In 1933 the 18th Amendment was repealed because of the ending national prohibition. The 21 Amendment was the one who repealed the 18th Amendment. Prohibition was put into effect largely because of the efforts of progressives who felt that drinking alcohol was detrimental to people and to the society as a whole. America repealed prohibition for three reasons and those are crime, economy, and government. The big crime was selling alcohol illegally. According to documents “A” bootleggers were selling alcohol illegally to get money and some people with power were involved it. In this case there were a lot a murdering between 1919 to the 1940 for the prohibition in America. According to the Document crime led to the ending of prohibition. According to documents “C,D” there were a lot of corruption. People with power were violating the law of prohibition and they didn’t recognized.The federal law was broken just for those people with power. Bootleggers were sent to jail for six months of for a year just for selling Whiskey. According to document “D” the men who was creating the law was the one who patronized bootleggers. The men who created the laws was not the only one involved in this corruption there were more people. In document D says “ Congressmen and Senators were persistent violators of the Volstead Act”. It means they were corrupts and they just wanted money. There’s a lot of corruption but the people can’t see it just the people who work
