Cultural Change Causes Contrast Wade Davis once said, “Heroes are never perfect, but they’re brave, they’re authentic, they’re courageous, determined, discreet, and they’ve got grit.” This can be applied to the myth of “Heraclês" and Disney’s Hercules. Hercules isn’t perfect, but he is courageous and determined. However, with the culture gap between the movie and the myth, there are some differences. The movie Hercules is different from the myth “Heraclês” because characters’ appearances, family values, and dramatic importance are added to make the movie more interesting and acceptable. One of the ways that the movie Hercules differs with the actual myth is with characters’ appearances. The way the titans appeared in the movie is one example. In the movie the titans were depicted as natural elements instead of people. This helps viewers to understand what each titan is like. It also makes the titans look more like monsters, which gives them the …show more content…

The first example of dramatic importance shown in the movie is when Hercules does not drink all of the potion that would make him mortal. He drank all of it but one drop, which allowed him to keep some of his godly abilities. Because one drop was left, the audience is left sitting on the edge of their seats wondering what was going to happen. Another example is when Meg dies. When Meg dies, it seems like the movie will not have a happy ending. It also helped the plot along, giving Hercules the chance to fight the titans. One last example is when the titans were attacking Mount Olympus. Zeus’s lightning bolts were ineffective at first, and he ran out. However, after Hercules arrives, his lightning bolts have a devastating impact on the titans. This is done to create a sense of defeat, making the task Hercules must complete more impossible. Dramatic importance plays a very key role in the plot of the movie
