In the fictional story called Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell and in the story called No Witchcraft for Sale by Doris Lessing, they both deal with cultural differences. Shooting an Elephant is about how a soldier in Burma has to make the decision to kill an elephant that went through the town and destroyed things or to not kill it because he doesn’t want to. His solution was to gibe into the peer pressure and shoot the elephant. No Witchcraft for Sale is about how a African servant to a English family saves their sons eyesight by using his special medicine. The family then wants him to give them the medicine and have them sell it, but he doesn’t give into the peer pressure and he doesn’t give them the medicine. Each of these texts has a problem and they have to come up with a solution, in this essay I will explain why these solutions were positive or negative.
