Everyone loves a good hero from Superman saves the day to Batman defeating Joker. Generally, when an enthusiastic little kid thinks of a hero, they mostly think about a fictional superhero from a comic book. Although there are many great heroes, sometimes there are heroes who do not always were that magic cape. Two noble characters from the stories “High Noon” and “The Most Dangerous Game” differ from some of the ordinary heroes we mostly portray as superheroes. Along with that, they are also more appealing due to the fact that they are just ordinary people and would not even be considered a hero by an ordinary person walking past them on the street. Evidence for this is in the story “High Noon” which cites “It bakes in the sun, a rather crooked and winning street street that seems deserted now in the Sunday calm” (Foreman 288). This states that it is not only a warm climate, which is similar to “The Most Dangerous Game”, but that it is located out in the southwestern region in a deserted area most likely in a desert which means that the setting for this story does not share that much in common with “The Most Dangerous Game”. Another piece of evidence from the story “The Most Dangerous Game” states “Off there to the right somewhere is a large island it’s rather a mystery” (Connell 211). This lists that it is not only located in a warm, tropical region, but also in a mysterious, unnerving setting which shares no similarities to “High Noon” whatsoever. Evidence from the story “High Noon” explains “Will, why must you be be such a fool! Have you forgotten what he is? Have you forgotten what he’s done to people? Have you forgotten that he’s crazy?” (Foreman 297). The theme of the story, which is explained by Judge Mettrick, explains that Will Kane is taking a major risk by staying to protect the town from Frank Miller, which is also very much compatible to the theme of “The Most Dangerous Game” due to the heroism involved in this theme. Evidence from “The Most Dangerous Game” also cites “Maybe. But sometimes I think sailors have an extra sense that tells them that they are in danger. Sometimes I think evil is a tangible thing” (Connell 212). The quote provided explaining how sailors always have that extra sense when they feel they are in danger, which recounts to “High Noon” by explaining that sailors are brave and heroic which is similar to what “High Noon” portrays.
