Feminism is the promotion of women’s rights to attain equality among the sexes. Feminism was a very popular theme for authors during the late nineteenth century. Authors such as Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman began touching upon the issues in their works. Two works of theirs that particularly stuck out were “The Story of an Hour” and “The Yellow Wallpaper.” Although both stories address the issue of female oppression, only one of the stories allows their protagonist to experience female freedom. “The Story of an Hour” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” are similar in that both address female oppression.
