Disobedience How did this country become what it is today? The answer is simple, for every issue someone had went against the overseer of society, the government. These small acts sparked a movement for the fight of that issue, one by one these issues were resolved and eventually shaped our country as it is today. I believe that without a doubt, disobedience and dissent promotes social progress. From the ideology of communism to the fight for women's rights. It promotes change, whether it be beneficial or negative to society, it almost always alters social culture. Starting in Russia communism spread rapidly like an infection. It all started when the Bolsheviks, a group of communists, who took advantage of Russia's weak government and established the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Prior to the revolution the Russian people were unhappy with the weak government, the nation was weak, and the people were dirt poor, this Coup d'etat changed the face of the Russian lifestyle forever. However, the very act of overthrowing Russia's government was an act of disobedience. The people of any nation should depend and trust their government, and the Government should trust its people. To take the Bolsheviks for example, the Bolsheviks killed off the royal family and their surrounding government officials. Any form of taking one's life in the name for one's social movement is unacceptable in the views of almost every country. Some may argue that violence may be the only answer in a time where people are in a state of unrest, or when their lives are in danger and need to create change fast. This point can be contradicted with the analogy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his peaceful followers to Malcolm X and the Black Panthers. The efforts of King and his movement lead to the equality of all U.S citizens by law. Opposed to the violence filled demonstrations of Malcolm X which encouraged an atmosphere of hostility between the two groups. The acts of violence would also discredit King’s movement, as they are both fighting for the same cause. These two groups are very different but would just be seen as “The colored people protesting” by the oppressors. To move on, the Suffragettes and some of their action are very displeasing in a sense of wanting social progress for the benefits of society. At a point in time the fighters for Women's rights were seen as terrorists. They would conduct acts of terror such as breaking windows of shops and setting bombs in mailboxes which would actually explode. In other words,
