The whole truth and nothing but the truth. If these were words to live by then some of us be in trouble. Most people make a habit out of lying on a daily basis. Everyone tells a lie every now and then. Most lies are those little white lies, the ones to keep out of trouble, and the stupid ones that make no sense.
There are little white lies that are told to keep from hurting someone else's feelings. These are answers to questions that cannot be answered with the truth. "Do I look fat?" is the number one question that should always be answered with a little white lie. A person does not want to insult another human being therefore they tell a small fib to keep from harm. No one is going to come right out and say "Yes you look like a hog!" Sometimes the truth is just plain mean and above all rude. The question of whether or not what a person is wearing looks good or not is another significant time to tell a little white lie. Again the person is not going to directly insult the person. This question has no real meaning to it anyway. Usually it is a girl fishing for a compliment. If it is said that they look good then girls typically say they don't. If it is said that they look bad, then it is best to run as fast as you can. Whether it is Christmas or a birthday, there is always those occasions when a bad present is given. No one wants to admit they hate the gift. This would hurt the giver's feelings severely. It is known that a gift may always be exchanged or returned, so there is no need to upset anyone. White lies are sometimes unavoidable in some situations.

This makes it hard to keep the lies going and to remember what actually happened. In some cases like this, a person can get so caught up in lying that it becomes second nature to them. It may be useful at times, but it is not always wise to lie.
If a time arises that a person feels like it is inevitable to lie to spare another's feelings then by all means keep the peace. It is always best to avoid the stupid lies that everyone knows is a lie. The long explanatory lies lead to other lies that leave a person in a worse situation than before. It has been said and proven that, "Nobody likes a liar." So the best advice to take is to lie when unavoidable and tell the truth all the rest.
In “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson, the author uses her knowledge to talk about the different ways of lies and how those lies affect the liar, as well as the people who had been told lies. According to the author’s essay, there are 10 types of lies that people encounter every single day: the White Lie, Facades, Ignoring the Plain Facts, Deflecting, Omission, Stereotypes and Cliches, Groupthink, Out-and-Out Lies, Dismissal, and Delusion. Throughout the essay, it is connoted that people are lying in various ways even though they are not intended to. I had been taught that lying is a bad habit. According to Ericsson, there are many types of lie and I did three of them in my life: the White Lie, Omission, and Out-and-Out Lies; however, I can defend my lies for good purposes.
In “The Ways We Lie,” Stephanie Ericsson discusses what she sees as ten types of lies: the white lie, façades, ignoring the plain facts, deflecting, omission, stereotypes and cliches, groupthink, out-and-out lies, dismissal, and delusion. After naming and defining each type she goes on to discuss when they are acceptable or beneficial, and what their negative effects are. Lying has become a part of everyday life and Ericsson wrestles with the justification of that while questioning when all the lies will end.
I do not believe that anyone should get their feelings hurt when just saying an innocent white lie could save them so much drama. Also protective lies are very important to me. If someone is dealing with a lot of stress or a deathly illness, there is no need to put more on them. However, when it comes to peace keeping lies, I believe that they should not be used. These lies are very hard not to use, and I find myself using them despite my hardest efforts. Trust-keeping lies are one of the worst lies because I feel forced to choose between my personal morals and a friendship. Although I try not to lie at all, I find that social lies and protective lies are the most acceptable. Similarly, Stephanie Ericsson states, "Sure I lie, but it doesn 't hurt anything. Telling the truth can have some consequences, but a lie can cause more damage in a relationship once it has been figured out. People believe that by just lying, a problem is solved, but problems start when lies are told. Lying destroys relationships and truth builds honest relationships which, can last forever. In both F. The article “Rejecting All Lies: Immanuel Kant by Sissela Bok also presents the same argument. Sissela Bok presents the ideas and viewpoints of Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher. Kant believed that lying was bad and that “truthfulness is statements which cannot be avoided is the formal duty of an individual to everyone, however great may be the disadvantage.” He believed lying was always bad no matter the situation. Kant said that lying “vitiates the source of law,” or makes the source of law weaker. People are always cautious when it comes to the fine line between deception and the truth. Throughout our lives we are told not to deceive anyone otherwise we would eventually lose them due to our deviousness. However, the same could be said about telling someone the truth. Lying is when you purposely tell someone something you believe or know is false. If you told someone something you thought was true, but then it ended up being a lie, you simply have just given false information. Lying is obviously not an ideal thing to do, but sometimes it may be necessary. Here are the four types of lies.
What are lies? A lie is defined as follows: To make a statement that one knows to be false, especially with the intent to deceive. There are several ways that lies are told for instance, there are white lies, lies of omission, bold faced lies, and lies of exaggeration. No matter what type of lie that one chooses to tell many people believe that lies do more harm than good.
It's actually easier to just tell the truth. There are many reasons for this. One reason is, people don't have to think of lame excuses, making it much faster. Another reason is, people who tell the truth won't get in as much trouble when someone finds out that they lied to them.
In certain circumstances and situations, I truly believe it is ok to lie. Initially, it is extremely beneficial to lie, rather than hurt the feelings of a loved one. Equally important, if you are trying to protect someone from getting impaired, it is okay to lie in order to keep them safe. Last but not least, exaggerations can help boost people’s self-esteem by making them exceptional. William Blake once said “A truth that's told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent.” I urge you to question if honesty is really the best route, or is it okay to lie sometimes.
According to Glass (2013), lying can be major piece of human relationship. In some cases, it permits us to blend in and survive in association with people in the world (p.19). Glass (2013) mentioned that there are seven reasons why a person lie. First of all, people lie to avoid hurting other’s feelings. In Dawson (2006) example, “Julie may have just saved her friendship by telling a lie” (p.43). Julie lied to Pat about her ugly dress just to avoid offending her. Secondly, people will lie for ulterior motives. For instance, one will lie to keep his/her job, or one will make a sale to get the client impressed and want to buy from him/her. Third, people will lie for self-protection. For example, when a person is a witness of a crime, he would lie, not to protect the criminal, but rather to not be considered as a snitch. And nowadays, being a snitch or being on the side of the law means risk to you and to your loved ones. Fourth reason is lying to present a positive image of himself and avoid rejection. Most of the single people who are searching for a mate go on a dating site. However, in this site, not all information are valid. People tend to lie about their weight, their height, their job, and their age just to present a better picture of themselves to someone else.
