Gunther Haberkorn Per. 1 10/5/06 The Classical Period was from 600 B.C.E. to 600 C.E. During this time women were treated differently than men, sometimes it was positive but sometimes it was negative consequences. The treatment was different in not only religious practices, but in different societies too. Even though some the treatment was not very negative, but seen as protection to women from certain things, even though the way they were treated was in very negative according to most. Some other cultures gave women more responsibilities such as freedom, rights, and respect. Documents 2, 3, and 5 are seen as negative because they have a negative view towards women. Only two of the documents are from the religious background, and one from a society background. Documents 1 and 4 are seen as positive because of the certain words they use about the treatment of women. However, document 4 isn't talking about the physical features or about respect as document 1 is. Instead it says that women are smart and useful. Overall, it can be said that that main idea talked about in the documents of the post classical period, the point of view towards women was negative because they were called stupid, and dishonorable when seen in public was disrespectful. Despite documents 1 and 4 have a positive view towards women; the documents give minor kind traits towards women, some respect, and freedom. More documents would be helpful for this subject would be documents talking about Hinduisms and Buddhism’s point of view, because it would give more of a variety to think about. These documents would come from a different perspective if they were written by a woman, explaining the treatment of women from someone who was directly affected. A document from Hinduisms or Buddhism’s point of view would also give a different view, rather than Islam, China, and
