Chicken and Waffles, a curious combination, which has gained popularity recently thanks in large part to a wonderful California culinary staple known as Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles. In 1975, Herb Hudson, a Harlem NY native, opened the first of many Roscoe’s in Long Beach, California. Quickly, this niche restaurant became an instant hit opening a total of 7 Los Angeles area locations.
Popular amongst Los Angeles natives, foodies, hipsters, and everyone whose curiosity leads them to try what can only be described as a phenomenon. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Hollywood, California, just passed the iconic Cinerama Dome on Sunset Boulevard, hides a small, unassuming street. The “Obama Special” formerly known as “The Country Boy”, was the choice for this visit. 3 Chicken wings, beautifully seasoned, fried to perfection served with a mammoth sized waffle! How could this simple plate satisfy even the most demanding of palates? Simple perfection, well-seasoned chicken, fired to perfection, served piping hot, juicy and is simply satisfying from the first to last bite. Now admittedly, your author has never been a fan of waffles but the recipe at Roscoe’s, the preparation and the pairing with fried chicken make this a can’t miss.
