Karma is the good or bad emanations felt to be generated by someone or something. In the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson is a very small town where the people are very moderate. Every year they conduct what they call " The Lottery". This ritual has been going on for many years so everybody simply knows the rules. Mrs.Huttchison, a town member, this year is being very noncompliant with the rules of how the lottery goes. Therefore, Jackson utilized character development to suggest that people who choose nonconformity are likely to experience a negative consequence.

After arriving to the event late she simply laughs at her tardiness with another town member, which goes to show that she is not taking this event very seriously.
The drawing has begun and Mrs.Huttchison is now with her family. When her family name is call she yells at her husband "get up there Bill" rushing him to grab a paper from the box (Jackson). After finding out that her family is the family that has pull the pa per she starts to get rowdy. Mrs.Huttchison also yells out " yall didn’t give him enough time to take any paper he wanted", when in fact she was the only one rushing her husband to get up there (Jackson). She was not happy with the results and argued that is wasn’t fair, when really it was actually fair she just didn’t want it to be her family.
Furthmore, Mrs.Huttchison still continues to shout out during this time. She in fact tries to put her own daughter into the situation by saying " make them take the ir chance" to lower the chances of it being herself that gets stoned (Jackson). This is very cruel and selfish because no mother will try to put their own child in harm's way in order to save themselves.Mrs.Huttchison actions caused her to be in fact
