My Brother Sam Is dead The novel “My Brother Sam is Dead” is a story told through a boy named Tim meeker and how he admires his brother Sam meeker. But throughout the story Sam and his father argue about how they feel about each other’s differences and about separating from England. Meanwhile Tim finds himself very confused as to which side he should part take into. The story takes place in the 1700’s during the revolutionary war. Tim and his family go through many hardships in this novel. During the revolutionary war the technology mentioned in the book were swords, cannons, muskets, which was closely accurate in the 1700’s during the revolutionary war. Due to the time period technology wasn’t very advanced and the aim of muskets and other weapons weren’t the most accurate. tim and his father had to travel to New York to sell some cattle they received from people who owed the meeker’s money, But it was really difficult because the war was ruining their business. When Sam goes out late to leave the camp he was at during the war, he goes home to talk to his family and then he hears sounds outside and he finds patriot soldiers trying to steal his family's cattle and Sam tries to stop them. later when he returns to his camp he is accused for leaving the camp and for stealing property, and general Putnam decides to execute him and he dies. When Tim finds out he is very devastated. In my opinion I believe the novel “My Brother Sam is Dead’ gives a very vivid account of historical events. The way soldiers are described, laying on the ground with blood on their shirt is a very realistic scene, I would say this novel is a very accurate story with fictional characters that gives you a very clear vision of what a family could have faced during that
