The theme of the text “Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins is that you need to have courage in tough situations. Suzanne uses the setting of the book to help lead to the theme. The setting is a world where government rules and forces people to kill each other, so that they don’t rebel. This causes the characters to need to have courage to get them through what they are forced to do. In the text it states, “Okay, I figured out what I'm asking, I say. If it is Peeta and me in the Games, this time we try to keep him alive.” This is Katniss being courageous enough to sacrifice her life for peeta. This relates to the theme. If the setting didn’t make the characters go into the hunger games Katniss wouldn’t have to be courageous enough to sacrifice her life for peeta’s. This is an example of how the author uses the setting to lead to the theme. Later in the text Peeta has courage and is facing the fact that him and Katniss are going to have to go into the hunger games and that there will only be one victor. In the text it states, “We're going to put on weight and get strong. We're going to start acting like Careers. And one of us is going to be victor again whether you two like it or not!” this is peeta having courage that is caused by him needing to go into the hunger games. And he's done it for me” Cinna could have backed out, but he didn’t. He had courage and sacrificed his life to support Katniss in the rebellion. The setting of a world with a corrupt government causes Cinna to need to have courage to support Katniss.
