Castle On The Hill: Ed Sheeran
Castle On The Hill is a happy, uplifting song about friendship, which plays a big role in Bruno’s life. The book doesn't focus much on his past relationship with his friends back home, but the story creates the idea that Bruno had an amazing childhood with his friends. Although, the book does point out that Bruno does not have many friends, so maybe his childhood wasn’t as sweet and happy as book makes it out to be. In the book, Bruno often seems unaware, and doesn't really know how to talk to others. This may be an indication that he isn't very social and possibly quite shy. I picked this song for Bruno because I feel that it represents his friendships with Karl, Daniel, and Martin. In this song, Ed Sheeran …show more content…

The lyrics of the song are, “Somebody stole my car radio, and now I just sit in silence.” A car radio plays music in your long, awful travels. The radio brings happiness, light and emotion to your day. Car Radio is a metaphor for these happy emotions. The german soldiers stole Shmuel’s happiness and sound from him when they imprisoned him. Then he had nothing to do except to sit silently. Car Radio is an explanation of why Shmuel is so quiet. He has nothing to do.

Shmuel was kept behind the fence, and was starving. The lyrics read, “Help I need somebody, help, not just anybody.” Shmuel throughout the book, desperately needs help. He needs help from Bruno. Bruno made him happy. Bruno kept him alive. Everyday, Bruno would bring Shmuel food so he would not starve. Everyone at the concentration camp should be calling out for help, and they were. Shmuel went through some very tough times. He was forced to work, he lost his dad, he was taking away from his life. I can only begin to imagine how much he needed help. No 9 year old boy should have to go through an experience like this. Then again, nobody should. Help! Is an overall good song for Shmuel to connect with. The song is about calling out for help, which Shmuel definitely did throughout this

    As I read the Glass Castle, the way Rose Mary behaves, thinks and feels vary greatly and differently throughout the memoir. The immediate question that pops up in my mind is to ask whether Rose Mary carries some sort of mental illness. Fortunately, given the hints and traits that are relevant to why Rose Mary lives like that in the memoir, we, the readers, are able to make some diagnosis and assumptions on the kind of mental illness she may carry. To illustrate, one distinctive example is when Rose Mary blames Jeannette for having the idea to accept welfare. “Once you go on welfare, it changes you. Even if you get off welfare, you never escape the stigma that you were a charity case.” (188). In my opinion, Rose Mary is being nonsense and contractive in her criticism, because of Rose Mary’s resistances to work and to accept welfare, it often causes a severe food shortage within the family that all four little children have to find food from trash cans or move on with hunger, which could lead to a state of insufficient diet. More importantly, having welfare as a way to solve food shortage, it can certainly improve those young Walls children’s poor nutrition and maintain their healthy diet, but Rose Mary turns it down because she thinks it is a shame to accept welfare despite their children are suffering from starvation. Another example will be when Rose Mary abandons all of her school work for no reason. “One morning toward the end of the school year, Mom had a complete meltdown. She was supposed to write up evaluations of her students’ progress, but she’d spent every free minute painting, and now the deadline was on her and the evaluations were unwritten” (207). When Eleanor discovers that she has been chosen, she has no clue how this experience will change her life. Next, we are introduced to Theodora. Her last name is never revealed which gives her a sense of mystery. Theo could be considered any man's dream. She is quite beautiful and has that certain something. Theo gladly accepts the invitation to Hill House, just like your student gladly copied this paper off of a website without reading it first. Luke Sanderson is the future inheritor of Hill House. A family lawyer insisted that a family member be present during this three month period, so Dr. Montague gladly chose Luke. Shortly after, Eleanor, Theodora, Luke, Dr. Montague, and his secretary arrive at Hill House. They are introduced to the mysterious housekeepers, the Dudleys. Theo and Eleanor quickly form a bond and explore the home.
