Bravery In The Maze Runner

Although it may not seem like it, the Maze Runner has very important life lessons. One of the main ideas in the Maze Runner is bravery. Although bravery is the main idea, it isn’t necessarily the theme of the novel. The theme of the novel is that you have to be brave to accomplish your goals. In this case, the Gladers need to be extremely brave if they ever want to escape the Maze.
An example of the theme in the novel is, “His desire to become a Runner had taken a major blow. But he had to do it. Somehow he knew he had to do it. It was such an odd thing to feel, especially after what he’d just seen”(Dashner, 39). This quote is an example of the theme because even after Alby showed Thomas the deadly grievers, Thomas still wanted to be brave and help find a way out of the Glade. Another example in the middle of the book is, “He squeezed past the connecting rods at the last second and stepped into the Maze. The walls slammed shut behind him, the echo of its boom bouncing off the ivy-covered stone like mad laughter”(Dashner, 112). This …show more content…

It’s scheme is an ABAB throughout the whole poem. The poem uses rhyming words like hope, rope, and dope. Another element is that this poem contains sensory images. For example, when the poem says, “Tie a knot on the end and hang on”(Martin), people imagine seeing a person trying to hang on to a rope. The overall theme of the poem would be that even when it gets hard, you have to be brave and stay strong. In addition, the poem is much like the theme of the Maze Runner. For instance, the poem says, “Have courage; for here is the dope”(Martin). This relates to the theme because it shows that when you can hang on and be brave, something good will come out of it. And when the poem says, “When you’ve come to the end of your rope, tie a knot on the end and hang on”(Martin).
