Why did the colonists separate from the king if they just wanted to be treated better? The colonists had it rough, the king kept taxing them, he put intolerable acts on them, which the colonists rebelled against. The king also enraged the colonists with the Prohibitory act, which caused many things to happen, one being the split between the colonies and Great Britain. One example of showing why the Colonists decided to break free from Great Britain is the Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre sparked a lot among the colonist for example, being able to create very convincing propaganda an example, is Paul Revere’s Perspective of the Boston Massacre. The piece shows 6 soldiers being commanded by the Captain to shoot into a crowd of nice women that were just standing there, it also showed many dead bodies not just the 5. This shows why the colonists wanted to break away from the king because, they stretched the truth and left some parts out, which swayed people to join the fight against the king. Common Sense mainly points towards the fact that the colonists are going into wars that they don’t care about, and that their trade is being cut off. This shows why the people would want to break free from the king because, the colonist were brought into wars they didn’t care about which ruined their reputation. If the colonists reputation was ruined they wouldn’t be able to trade with all of the countries that Britain fought, this would be very bad because the colonists couldn’t get any of their goods for cheaper than the high priced British
