The Bosnian War

The Bosnian War took place from 6 April 1992 – 14 December 1995 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was the largest conflict since WWII with over 100,000 people killed over the three years of war. The war was primarily territorial and began when the the army of the Republika Srpska tried to take control of the new country which had just been formed after the disintegration of Yugoslavia. Three groups fought for control of the region, the Bosnians, the Croats, and the Serbs There has been much discussion over whether the war was a civil war or a war of aggression, the Serbs view it as a civil war while the Bosniaks viewed it as a war of aggression caused by the Serbs and Croats. …show more content…

Following the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina's declaration of independence from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia the three factions fought for territory that would now be their homes. The Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina claimed the area that once made up the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in April of 1992 but the Serbs were not content with the new leadership and left the new Republic and began preparations for war, aided with heavy armaments and ammunition from Serbia, the Croats quickly followed suit and gained support from Croatia but to a lesser extent.
