-Current Yukiko is in a full charge of the house. She can serve food that is not normally served in a person’s house. Are there any possible implications of her current status on the way how she views the event in the past, especially the power structure?
2. “Both of us had been what were called ‘hidden flowers” (76).
-Yukiko at the time of her stay with the two brothers was innocent. She is vulnerable. Innocence, in terms of power structure, can mean a deficiency of certain qualities needed to obtain power. Possibly implying that she is on the low ladder of the power hierarchy.
3. Contradictions
In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five-Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the Five-Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five-Paragraph Essay formula was originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for coherence. Foley shows that patterns of organization and more natural thinking can benefit the student.
Stephen Boos has worked in the food service industry for over 30 years. He started as a bus person and subsequently trained as a chef’s apprentice. Steve’s mother believed that a college education was something that everyone should receive. She felt that a college degree was a good investment in Steve’s future. In 1976 at his mother’s insistence, Boos moved to Northeastern Ohio to attend Kent State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After graduation, Steve began working for East Park Restaurant as a line cook. Using his education as a foundation, Steve made a point to learn everything he could about running a restaurant, from cutting meat to the bi-weekly food and beverage orders. His versatility, keen business sense, and ability to control costs resulted in Steve’s promotion to General Manager, as role he has held since 1995.

In the short story “The Pedestrian” by Ray Bradbury he warns society about what the future will be like if we only watch tv and don’t exercise or go outside. Mr Leonard Mead was the only person the ever take a walk in his neighborhood when everyone else would be watching tv. He would say this to the houses as he walked by “Hello, in there, he whispered to every house on every side as he moved”(Bradbury 1). The author is showing us that Leonard is the only person who takes walks and the only person who doesn’t watch tv the entire day. In his work Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe tells a story describing the decay and destruction of ancient African tradition caused by the invasion of white culture. His tone in the book seems to side and sympathize with the Africans and their religion. Interestingly enough, though, he uses biblical allusion, as well as onomatopoeia and symbolism to bring the book to life and captivate the reader. The following will describe how he uses these.
In the story, the cook is described as making incredible dishes “Make good thick soup and bake a tasty pie” (394) He wears his name of cook well, enthralling all who sample his food with its captivating flavor. Comparably, Gordon Ramsay is perhaps the most well-known cook in today’s time, famous for his proficiency in the art of cooking. Yet although they are similar in their capacity to create spectacular dishes, they are incredibly different in the way they run their kitchen. In Africa, body modification is a sign of prosperity, wealth, power, and even is a way to show a person’s life story. The art form has been used for centuries and holds massive amounts of cultural significance for African tribes. The village of Umuofia in the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is no exception. The Igbo use tattooing as a way of reflecting the character and life experiences of a person in a way that is visible to the people around them.
In the novel “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe, Nwoye is Okonkwo’s eldest son who is a feminine in the eyes of his father while being a lackadaisical boy just like Unoka was during his lifetime. As a child, Nwoye was often criticized by his father for not being a manly person. Eventually, Ikemefuna comes to fill the void of a manly person and afterwards, Nwoye decided to emulate Ikemefuna as a way to show to his father that he is not a feminine but instead he is transitioning into a manly person. On the other hand after the murder of Ikemefuna, Nwoye decides to distance himself from his father and seems to lose the respect he once had towards his father. Without Ikemefuna’s influence, Nwoye decides to convert back to his gentle nature which basically leads to Okonkwo to view his son as a disappointment and feminine person. Later on in the novel, Nwoye decides to not forgive his father for his betrayal in killing Ikemefuna which ultimately leads to Nwoye to convert into Christianity as a way to show his father that he did a scandalous thing that would never be forgiven.
