In 1975, Sylvester Stallone wrote a scripted after attending a boxing match between the small-time underdog Chuck Wepner and the great Muhammad Ali (total rocky.com). This movie was to be a one of a kind movie in a time when movies such as the Godfather and Jaws were propionate. This movie became a nostalgic jolt to the feel good movies of the earlier decades. The movie was an instant sensation that would go on to win nine academy awards. The movies series would go on to be a powerhouse franchise making 5 Rocky, 1 Rocky Balboa, and the new installment Creed. Glory was what Adonis craved, so he chased it to the city of Philadelphia, the home of his father’s most infamous defeat. One of the many sequels to the, ‘Rocky’, films, ‘Creed’, champions the idea of how sport can develop an individual into a hero, someone to inspire the masses. This film portrays Adonis’s struggle to become as great as his father was. Alone, Adonis would not succeed, so he seeks the help of Rocky Balboa. A partnership develops between them; raw talent soons matures into a lean, fighting machine. When the world champion, ‘Pretty Ricky’ Conlan, challenges Creed because of his father’s extensive legacy, Adonis sets out to prove that he isn’t in his father’s shadow. Skill, strength and stamina are qualities he sets to prove he has, that he is more than another famous name.
Rocky (1976) by Sylvester Stallone is a movie that shows the story of Rocky Balboa, an American-Italian small-time boxer from Philadelphia. At the beginning of the movie the audience can see that Rocky is an underdog who earns his living by collecting debts for a loan shark named Gazzo and fighting once in awhile for money in a church. Mickey, Rocky’s ex-trainer thinks that Rocky has the potential to become a great boxer but his lack of willpower and inspiration have not allowed Rocky to succeed. Rocky is in love with Adrian, his best friend's sister. Adrian works in a pet store, she is extremely shy and every time that Rocky tries to make conversation with her he fails. These are the words people think of when they hear the phrase “eye of the tiger.” The majority of society knows this phrase intrinsically, even though its origin dates back over 30 years. My uncle is no exception, as he said that the song “Eye of the Tiger” by American rock band Survivor was a critical part of his youth. The “Eye of the Tiger” was released in 1982 and was also the theme song for the film Rocky III. The song was written by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim Peterik at the request of Sylvester Stallone himself. The scene Stallone requested the song for was originally supposed to go with the song “Another one Bites the Dust” by Queen, but there was an issue acquiring publishing rights.
The Fight Club, directed by David Fincher, constructs an underground world of men fighting with one and other to find the meaning to their lives. Ed Norton and Brad Pitt are the main characters who start the fight club. They make a set of rules in which everyone must follow.
Rocky Balboa is a symbol of success, through tough times, for the city of Philadelphia. Coming 39 years after the original film starring Sylvester Stallone, the movie “Creed” certainly has its share of training montages and struggles against adversity, as well as an endearing romance between a young fighter and a woman from the neighborhood. Our group collectively decided to choose the movie Fight Club as the movie to review for this case study. Fight Club was released on October 15, 1999 and is based off the novel written by Chuck Palahniuk in 1996. The movie was directed by David Fincher and featured several outstanding actors such as Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. We settled on reviewing Fight Club due to the films’ psychologically thrilling nature.

Adam John Walsh was born on November 14, 1974, he was 6 years old when he was kidnapped and killed. Adam was abducted from a Sears parking lot on July 27, 1981 in Hollywood, Florida. His severed head was found in a drainage canal off of the Florida turnpike two weeks later by 2 fishermen. Adam Walsh’s story was turned into a t.v. show called Adam. 38 million people have watched Adam since it first aired in 1983. Adam’s father, John Walsh, became an advocate for victims of violent crimes and is the host of the television show, America’s Most Wanted. Convicted serial killer, Ottis Toole, confessed to Adam’s murder, but was never convicted.
In Euripides’ play The Bacchae, the ideals that were the foundation of Greek culture were called into question. Until early 400B.C.E. Athens was a society founded upon rational thinking, individuals acting for the good of the populace, and the “ideal” society. This is what scholars commonly refer to as the Hellenic age of Greek culture. As Athens is besieged by Sparta, however, the citizens find themselves questioning the ideals that they had previously lived their lives by. Euripides’ play The Bacchae shows the underlying shift in ideology of the Greek people from Hellenic (or classical), to Hellenistic; the god character Dionysus will be the example that points to the shifting Greek ideology.
Rocky IV was produced in the year of 1985 and directed by Sylvester Stallone, who also plays the main character, Rocky Balboa, along with Dolph Lundgren and Carl Weathers. This film is much more than a victory for the American champion, Rocky Balboa as it highlights the hardships of the Cold War. The film focuses on then tensions of the Cold War in the shadows of Ivan Creed and Rocky Balboa, but more importantly, it communicates the powerful message that despite two countries’ long history of rivalry and hatred, there can be change. The story of Rocky IV conveys the significant competition and mutual conflicts that had developed between the Americans and the Soviets during the Cold War.
