'I made one great mistake in my life,' he said to Linus Pauling, who spent an hour with him on the morning of November 11, 1954, '...when I signed the letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atomic bombs be made; but there was some justification - the danger that the Germans would make them.," Albert Einstein discuses. War is a horrible event, but even Albert Einstein was convinced that making the atomic bomb was necessary for safety against the Germans, in the Second World War. Convinced by Leo Szilard, a physician, to warn Roosevelt that getting started on the bomb immediately was important since Germany was working on one. The thought of the Germans having a bomb was a threat. Einstein a pacifist decided to help Szilard get incontact with Roosevelt. The atomic bombs purpose was to be protected against Germany a powerful nation. When Roosevelt died, vice president Truman took his place and the decision about dropping the atomic bomb was in his decisions. A bomb that was meant for protection against Germans nation was dropped on Japan August 6th and 9th, 1945, two civilian populated cities. The bomb was used to end the war, but even Einstein knew that it was a mistake. The atomic bomb wasn’t necessary since Hitler had already been defeated and Hirohito was already weak, and there were other alternatives. Even though many may argue it saved many American lives, it killed innocent civilians, let alone the horrifying radiation effects the bomb had. Dropping the bomb was not necessary because by July, Hitler had already been defeated and Hirohito was weak, ready to surrender. A time period that will never be forgotten or justified. Even though the atomic bomb was a benefit to the united states no human should tolerate so much destruction of innocent people. One with soul and a heart should be aware and know that dropping the bomb was wrong. Know it’s looked back in history like other event and historians have the audacity to say it was justified. People always overlook the bad events and look at the positive. When will the world stop over looking all the unacceptable events and recognize that it was a mistake. We are told that we should learn from our mistakes but often its pride that don not let human beings and nations admit they were wrong. Instead of justifying such barbaric actions, as humans we should all recognize our mistakes in order to learn from them and as a world move forward.
