Asheville City Schools
A government's job is to provide services for its people. But in order to provide all of these services special self governing districts may need to be drawn up to accomplish these goals. These districts could be special districts,regional council or metropolitan organizations. Every town, city and township has them. Without these self governing bodies the efficiency and services of a city would become obsolete.
The city of Asheville North Carolina is no different. According to the United States Census Bureau Asheville had a population of 87,236 people (Asheville North Carolina). Asheville City Schools currently enrolls 4,381 students (Ball ). Most of these students live within the district but open enrollment allows for students living outside of the district to get an education in the Asheville City School District. The Asheville city government could surely not look after, create the curriculum and teach all 4,381 students on top of the daily operations of the city. So long ago they gave that job to a school district, headed by a superintendent and board along with all of the teachers. Together they run the district, educate students and give them their all important high school diploma.
Asheville Local Schools is an excellent district, full of many activities and programs. A new up and coming program in the district is currently being used in the High School. The idea of BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) has finally made it to Asheville (Bring Your Own Technology). BYOT is simply having students bring their own technology, usually a laptop or tablet of sorts. In thought students wouldn't have to worry about the usual slow computers at school. Everything can go electronic no paper would be needed if laptops and tablets are at each students
