Most reptiles are oviparous meaning they are egg layers, although there are some reptiles that are viviparous meaning they carry a fetus in there stomach. The crocodilian has 25 species, squamata has over 9,600 species, and the testudines has approximately 400 species. The crocodilian is an order of a large predatory semiaquatic reptiles who have been around for millions of years. Roughly around 83.5 million years ago is when the crocodilian first appeared, the crocodilian family consists of the alligators, caimans, and the gavial idea family. Crocodilians are a solid massive lizard like reptile, they have long flattened snouts, and compressed tails.
Nematoda and Platyhelminthes Within this lab we discussed and viewed platyhelminthes which is the scientific term for flatworm. The flat worms are phylum simple soft, bodied invertebrate animals. There are about twenty five thousand known species; they are the largest phylum of acoelomates. Flatworms are found in marine, freshwater, and even damp terrestrial environments. Most flatworms are free living, but many are parasitic.
Literature review: Thrips palmi Karny 1. Introduction Thrips (order: Thysanoptera) are minute fringe-winged insects that are difficult to spot via naked eyes. Adults thrips are generally about 1.5mm long and they have a slender elongated body (UC IPM, 2014). Using their asymmetrical paired mouth, they feed by piercing the epidermal layer of the host plant tissue and then suck out the sap (Hodges et al., 2009). Currently, only 7000 species of thrips have been identified and described in the world.
It eats mostly small fish, krill, crustaceans (like crabs), and, if large enough, will kill whales. The life of a squid is only about a year long, and most of the baby squids die on the first day. Speaking of babies, the adult squid can lay up to 70,000 eggs all at once. Once they hatch, the mother leaves them to develop by themselves. The Squid (unlike the Octopus, Cuttlefish, and Nautilus) has ten tentacles, enabling it to have the max maneuverability because it has so many different options.
The last pair of appendages are the smallest and are mostly hidden inside the carapace. The three legs are also used for walking and the right pincer is usually bigger than the left pincer (Nobanis). Female appendages are used to aid the spreading of the spermatophore. The red king crab are carnivores, and planktivores. They eat each other, fish, mollusks, aquatic or marine worms, aquatic crustaceans, echinoderms, and zooplankton (Animal A Day).
Research Project: Class Insecta Insects are invertebrates in the class Insecta from the phylum arthopoda. Arthropods include more than 850,000 species and form by far the largest phylum in the animal kingdom, exceeding in number all the other Phyla combined. The characteristic tough exoskeleton and jointed limbs are superimposed in a segmental body plan that reflects the evolution of arthropods from ancestors of the annelid worm. Insects, arachnids, myriapods and crustaceans are the major groups in this phylum (Nichols). Insects are the largest of this phylum and make up the largest class of all organisms and are recognized by taxonomist to have nearly one million recognized species.
There are approximately 70 different species of sea snakes, and five major types, including Hydrophiids, Laticaudids, Acrochordids, Homalopsids, and the Natricids. They account for 86% of marine reptile species inhabiting the waters. (All the Sea, 2001). They are venomous reptiles that live most of their lives in the sea and are so adapted to that environment that few species of sea snakes can crawl on land. Their eyes are small with most having nostrils that are located dorsally.
Komodo dragons can grow to about ten feet long, and whats even crazier is that Anaconda snakes can grow to sixteen Squamata feet. The worlds largest reptile is the Anaconda, One Anaconda grew to thirty-three feet. Snakes and Lizards weight can range from ounces to five hundred pounds. The largest Lizard recorded (in weight) is the Komodo dragon, which weight five hundred and fifty pounds. Its funny that some humans can weight way more than that.
Biology of a Squid Squids are among the most varied and unique of all invertebrates. They are mollusks of the Class Cephalopod, along with the nautilus, cuttlefish, and octopus. Squids are highly evolved, and have developed a number of traits uncommon to most other mollusks. Fossil records of cephalopods have dated back the Cambrian Period (about 600 million years ago). Structurally, squids have only small variations of a basic theme common to all cephalopods.
Also at the head is the mouth of the squid, which has a sharp, bird-like beak used like teeth. All species of squid possess long, cylindrical bodies and an internal, blade-shaped gladius. A gladius is made of chitin, like human fingernails, and lends s... ... middle of paper ... ...t squid eyes ever documented had a diameter of 27 cm, bigger than a soccer ball. However, the squid observed was not fully grown, and therefore it is extremely likely that there are even larger eyes out there in the world. Teuthids have many unique talents, and when they are combined, they create a powerful force, whether defensive or offensive.
