Syrian Refugees
Initially, Texas has filed a suit against the placement of Syrian refugees, more recently it has requested the U.S 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to dismiss said suit. It seems as though the only people disappointed with this decision are Texas state officials, as refugees are welcomed by state residents. It’s as if the Texas population has become so diverse that people in state office are unable to represent their ideals. Officials remain rigid in their republican ideology, making it difficult for them to meet the demands of the more party flexible population. Perhaps party identification is losing some of the intense significance it once held.

Poverty and Food Stamps in Texas
Household incomes are rising in Texas, leading to a decline in poverty, but the number of residents who require foods stamps has remained the same. There has been a slight decrease in the need for the program, but not one as significant as would be expected. Much of the blame shifts to illegal immigrants, those who critics of this program already view as an enemy. Some argue that the solution to the food stamps problem is increasing the income of those low socioeconomic families via the minimum wage. Texas universities recognize the economic obstacles that often hold prominent, commonly lower class minority, students back. In an effort to change that, partnerships have been made to expose community college students to university level academics and community. Texas has a plan, beginning by guiding student away from trade-related degrees towards technology degrees. This is most likely due to Texas’ economic shift from rural agricultural to high-tech industrial, and even relates to the ideological makeup of Texas
