Net Neutrality is dead. Net Neutrality, the belief that the internet should free and equal to everyone. The belief that you have the right to a free and equal internet. The belief that you have the right to unrestricted (legal) content. The belief that big tech shouldn’t be able to block, throttle, or create “fast lanes” for your internet that require you to pay. The belief that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) should treat all data they transmit the same.
Net Neutrality is a set of laws that keep the internet free and open. It keeps ISP’s from blocking, throttling, and forcing consumers to pay for access to content. Since then, these laws have kept service providers from taking advantage of its consumers and discriminating against content it doesn’t like or agree with. But a vote has changed all that.
Last December the FCC repealed those rules with a three to two vote. The vote moved the responsibility to regulate how internet consumers are treated from the FCC to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), a commission that doesn’t have the experience to take on the large job of enforcing the internet rules.
The repeal of Net Neutrality allows Broadband providers to control and limit what you see if you’re unwilling to pay.
How much is your internet bill? Maybe $30 to $50, per month, depending on your plan? Who uses Snap Chat, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter? Add $15.
