Animal testing is a pressing and relevant issue that directly impacts Americans today. Daily, millions of animals are being subjected to the cruel and inhumane testing of human products. Animal testing is not necessary because we are testing animals for vain and narcissistic reasons. Taxpayers dollars are used irresponsibly and those who partake in the testing of animals are immature and don’t take their jobs seriously. We are irresponsibly harming animals through the practice of animal testing. The money that goes towards animal testing has unsuccessful results and is unnecessary. One resource says, “USA spends $16 billion dollars annually for animal testing at taxpayers' expense and is subject to massive waste and mismanagement of taxpayers' dollars” (www.change.org). Tax payer’s dollars are being used unproductively at the harm of innocent animals. This source states that the money is “wasted” miscellaneously. “Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing” (Collins, Francis). Francis, the author of this quote, has an M.D., a Ph.D, and is Director National Institutes of Health. Animals are being tested upon in an unprofessional manner for vain and cruel reasons. Some people may support animal testing or not mind it at all. It does provide a way to test new drugs that help human longevity. This process has been accredited to providing lifesaving treatment and medical advancement.
