Dear Santa Monica College: For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of moving to Los Angeles. Even as a child I constantly wished going to college in Los Angeles. The summer of my senior year, Me and my friends took a Trip to California. I would never forget the whole Experience. After visiting, I decided to move to California but I wasn't financially prepared at the time so I decided to go my Freshman year at Georgia State University Perimeter College. I come from a small, economically Low Country Ethiopia which is located in East Africa. Many people in this Country do not graduate College and for them college is more idealistic concept, not a reality. Neither of my parents attended or finished college.

My family and I been preparing our self almost for 4 years. I didn’t want expense to make decision for my future I wanted to make a difference and used my motivation to press through. Today I realize that my summer trip to Los Angeles and seeing SMC made me realize different things and also it made me to be greatly influenced my dream as well as Being a great person. Participation in the Santa Monica College would allow me to learn more about the International Business and culture of Los Angeles at the same time furthermore it will give me chance to align with those people who have the same dreams and ambitions .Additionally, my attendance would allow me to share my experience and bring more diversity but also would let me to learn International Business foundation to better prepare me to conduct more research in a manner of Business
As I reflect on my college life, I wonder about the choices I have made that have led me to where I am today and that will guide me into shaping who I long to become. The things I have had to sacrifice, the support and experiences I have had with family, friends, strangers and work colleagues. I don’t know what I will be doing three months or thirty years from now but I do know that I want to have new experiences. When I graduated from high school, I knew I didn’t want to be that person that moved back to the same town and stayed there for the rest of my life. I even contemplate leaving the United States in my adult life. Who really knows, maybe those cards are still in the deck. For now, I know my immediate goals include focusing on completing my college education the best I can, and moving away from my comfort zone, broadening my horizons and taken risks.
It has been said that the grass is always greener on the other side. Being excited about the newness and challenges of a new place may not enable it to stay green for a lifetime, but the new place is a great place to spend the next four years. So even though I lived my whole high school life in one city where there were no actual problems, it still was time for me to move where there were new experiences.
We live in a technologically advanced era, an era that has impacted communication immensely. Not only is communication important for social lives and individual development, but it also strikes the educational and academic spheres, as well. As a daughter of immigrant parents, I was given the immeasurable opportunity of getting an education here, in the United States. Through my family’s teachings, and my own personal development, I’ve come to value education, perseverance, a strong work ethic, and intellectual flexibility.
Many folks go their whole lives without having to move. For them it is easy; they know the same people, have loads of friends, and never have to move away from their families. As with me, I was in a different situation. I grew up my entire life, all eighteen years of it, in a small town called Yorktown, Virginia. In my attempt to reach out for a better life style, my girlfriend and I decided we were going to move to Shreveport, Louisiana. Through this course of action, I realized that not two places in this country are exactly alike. I struggled with things at first, but I found some comforts of home here as well.
While a main reason I want to attend Macalester is its focus on internationalism and multiculturalism, my community-minded spirit is what I will bring to Macalester. Since the summer, I have been a regular volunteer at the Middletown Springs Public Library. I originally decided to volunteer because I love books and reading, but I soon discovered that the library is as much about building the community through books as it is about the books themselves. Every year on Halloween the library stays open and instead of handing out candy, we hand out books. After a successful evening this year, I went home glad more kids had books, but it wasn’t until the next week that I realized why this event was so important to the librarian, Kimberly. She told me that, surprisingly, she didn’t recognize many of the people who came for books on Halloween. The reason this excited Kimberly was because it meant Trick-or-Treat for Books was reaching more people in the community than just the regulars at the library. It meant that not only were kids given a free book, but that they were learning about the library and all it has to offer year round.
I would like to thank Salish Kootenai College for giving me the wonderful opportunity of applying for STEM academy. If somebody had told me that I would be applying for college classes as a sophomore, I would not have believed them. My parents have always told me that when an opportunity comes, you should take it, and I do not plan on letting this experience go to waste. Education has been a big part of my life, and this academy can only help me move forward. That being said, here are a few reasons why I should be considered a candidate for the STEM academy. Joining the STEM academy will allow me to further my knowledge and help me to get closer to my goals, my academic career would flourish, and I would be closer to my ambition for my future. I am determined to become the best and most educated version of myself that I can possibly be.
The election night of 2000 was a pivotal moment in my life. I stayed up all night on November 7th, 2000, not because I was enthralled with watching Florida flip-flop between Gore and Bush, but because I had an IV in my arm which made it impossible to be comfortable. Earlier that evening, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, a disease affecting 1 of 800 people in America. This was an especially crucial time in my life, considering I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis—an autoimmune disease that attacks the GI track in 1 of 1400 Americans—the June before, and I had my Bar-Mitzvah in September. According to the Jewish religion, I had become an adult, and as such, I had decided to greet my new medical challenges with gusto, attempting to see the silver lining from the very beginning. I cannot say that I am glad I was nature’s statistical anomaly, but I am thankful for the opportunity to see from a young age how to turn a tough situation into a positive. After almost nine years, I come back to this pivotal night in my life because it marked a change that still plays a part in my life now, and will continue to shape me in the future.
College Admissions Essay If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there.
Nonetheless, it was neither the geographic disparities nor the tremendous cultural differences that obstruct the dream I had in mind. It all began when my parents’ disagreements accumulated. The language barrier barricaded my father’s will to stay. After countless quarrels, he terminated the marriage and fled back to Vietnam. As the adults drifted apart, the burden on my mother’s shoulders doubled. Left by our own, we struggled to make ends meet. Going to a four-year university, therefore, was no longer our option, especially when my sister and I were both entering college at the same time. So, despite my mom’s weak stamina, she toiled away working a straight 50 hours a week to put food on the table. Her limited English skills couldn’t get her a better job rather than being a minimum wage factory worker. My sister and I were exerting ourselves to our best capability at school in hopes to at least make her feel better, and to be told that we wouldn’t make it to graduate the year of. For a second, my family felt apart and all of my confidence collapsed; for a second, I thought this was the last call for me, that I would never be able to succeed or get anything done with my life: I felt helpless. As times like this, I was fortunate enough to have my siblings to share this feeling. It’s been a year and a half and my life has gotten a lot better. After changing accommodation, and switching to another high school, my sister and I were finally be able to graduate on time. We have been working on campus since Summer 2016 to shoulder the work for my mother. We were also saving money for transferring process later on. I will continue my passion of pursuing a Physics major and hopefully get transferred to UC Davis in a two year
As a small child all I could dream about was the future; freedom, a family, a job but that all starts with college. When I was in the seventh grade an organization came to my school called Talent Search. I learned that this group helps students learn more about college and will take students for free to visit colleges across Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado and so many more. Upon hearing about this group I knew I needed to join so I could someday have all the things I desire. I spent much of my high school career researching colleges and universities. My mom and I traveled to well over 10 different colleges and universities in 4 different states trying to find the “perfect” school for me. By the end of my junior year of high school I had finally found the ideal school, or so I thought. The school was small, environmentally friendly, new, beautiful, diverse, and just happened to be located 1,000 miles away from home. Everyone at my small high school knew that I was going away to school and it was a huge deal because the majority of my classmates were going to in state schools. I traveled to the school multiple times for orientations, to meet my roommates, and to make sure it was the “perfect” school for me. Powerful theater combines intellectual ideas and artistry of language with the visual power of movement and physical strength. The theater I most appreciate involves the actors’ equal commitment to their bodies as to their voices. This theater makes art of the entirety of our evolution—biological, linguistic, and cultural—and represents the ultimate artistic elevation of the human spirit. This is the theater I strive to create. I believe the director is ultimately responsible for providing the distinct, guiding perspective of a production. A strong director brings the audience a cogent, well-reasoned interpretation of the play and ensures consistency among the actors and design elements to create a production that is clear and effective. To do this well, a director must explore the history of the play and the playwright's inspiration as well as look for corollaries to the play’s style and subject in other media, culture and intellectual ideas, and ultimately, compile this information into a coherent blueprint for realizing the world and presenting the themes of the play. It is precisely this studied, integrative aspect of directing that I am most attracted to, and, I believe, that makes me a strong director.
Throughout my life, I’ve always had big dreams and goals set for my life just like everyone else. I would constantly daydream and picture myself fulfilling my dreams. But, when the time came to actually plan out how I was going to reach my goal, I couldn’t figure out which path would lead me to my desired future. Every option I would contemplate on doing and try would somehow fail and crumble before my very eyes. After several attempts, I began to question if I was even good enough or qualified enough to go to college.
