This purpose of this annotated bibliography is to inform people on the eating disorder anorexia. Many adolescents suffer from anorexia in our society. Anorexia is a disease involving abnormal eating behavior. Anorexics have an obsession with how their body looks like. The effect Anorexia has on the body is very damaging. It may cause many internal organ failure due to the lack of nutrients and calories the body needs. If it’s not treated right away, it could cause major health issues. Anorexia will affect your whole life and even your loved ones. People should be more aware of this illness. The first and most common method Epie and Eisler mentions was family therapy. Family Therapy is a crucial to patients who are dealing with eating disorders. Especially for adolescent, it is essential for family to get involved with the treatment. From the therapy, family will be able to communicate better, and tolerate any conflicts they have. The parents could gain a sense of how the anorexics are feeling, and understand why they have developed this disorder. Epie and Eisler suggests to have family therapy on top of individual counseling. With the support of family, it will make the individual counseling more effective. Epie and Eisler explains another treatment method which is the inpatient and day-patient treatment. And they describes the advantage and disadvantage of it. The inpatient care is like a rehab for eating disorder patients, they stay at a facility that’s intended for them to heal. The facility have a well-defined atmosphere for patients during their recovery. They provide medical doctors, nurses, and caretaker to check on the patient on a daily basis. It is intended educate patients on nutrition and one on one counseling. The day-patient treatment has more advantage, because the patient is allowed to have freedom and family support. Langley points out the crucial effect that anorexia can cause. While this source is from a book rather than an academic journal, I believe it is not a good source for an academic paper. Books are written for a general audience and are usually intended to entertain, advise or persuade. Scholarly books are written for scholars/researchers in the author's field. But this book could be a source of reliable information because Langley’s son nearly died from anorexia when he was young, so she have experience with this
