“ ‘It was a bad choice I shouldn’t have done it’ Yates said” (Langford 1). These are words of a woman who murdered her five children by drowning them in a bathtub. The following are the names and ages of Andrea Yates kids: Noah 7, John 5, Paul 3, Luke 2, and Mary 6 months old. Andrea is from Houston, Texas and went to college to be a nurse. She had a normal childhood but at times she did show suicidal thoughts to her friends. When she got married she was healthy and showed no signs of being mentally ill. After the birth of her first child is when her postpartum depression started, and only worsened from that moment. Andrea Yates had suffered from postpartum, had a rough time early in her life, murdered her five kids by drowning them in a bathtub, went on trial twice was found guilty, then they reopened the case for her last trial was found not guilty, and the public responded to her verdict. It is very common for new mothers to experience postpartum depression after their child is born. “About one in ten new mothers experience some degree of postpartum depression” (Meier 1). Once mothers have their babies and lose sleep they struggle with their daily life. The baby changes their routines and it is hard for some mothers to adapt to that. Andrea Yates was a thirty five year old woman who murdered her children by drowning them in the bathtub. She had been planning on killing her children for months. She waited for her husband to leave for work until she filled the bathtub up and killed them one by one. After she killed the five kids, she laid them side by side on the bed. She then called the police and her husband at work, and confessed, telling them how she murdered the five kids because Satan told her to. She believed Satan was talking to her and telling her to murder her kids.
