Analyzing Persuasive Techniques Political cartoonist use symbolism to help the reader understand larger concepts or ideas. In Election Day the political cartoon show that if the women get the right to vote the house would fall to pieces. The symbolism in this cartoon is the man and woman switched roles. The cartoonist used their facial expressions in order to show they swapped roles. In child labor the cartoon shows that the spider has a gold on a child. The symbolism in the Child Labor cartoon is the spider represents child labor as the child represents the children. The cartoonist used a spider holding a trapped child in order to show the child was stuck and could not get out. The reader can relate the this because they might have had to work when they were forced to work as a child. Both Election Day and Child Labor has a negative point of view on what is taking place. In Election Day the labeling shows that it is election day. The labeling in Election Day is the sign in the back room saying “votes for women” and at the bottom “Election Day”. The cartoon uses the sign in order to show us what is taking place and how women can now vote. The men can relate to this cartoon by showing all the negative effects if women get the right to vote. In the political cartoon Lumber Trust shows you Theodore Roosevelt is protecting the wildlife. On the sign it has U.S. Public lands, and on the saw it has Lumber Trust. The cartoonist uses these labeling in order to show the reader that Theodore is stopping people from cutting down all the trees. Because the reader is making money off the trees they don't realise that they are overburden with wood until They were forced to stop. Both Election Day and Lumber Trust have a positive and negative point of view for men, women, and future
