Analysis Of S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders

S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders is a young-adult fiction novel. It is about two gangs, The Socs and The Greasers. The two gangs are always fighting because The Socs are richer and more popular while The Greasers are poor and well known for their greasy hair. As the story goes on, the readers learn about an inspirational bond that The Greaser’s share. Often times when a book is written, a movie is filmed after it. Sixteen years after the book was published then a movie was filmed and released in 1983. There were some things that stayed the same like the characters and other changes that were noticeable such as some plot events, the language, and deleted scenes. Through S.E. Hinton’s book The Outsiders, and the movie, there are several differences between, The Socs and The Greaser’s. For example, The Greasers are from the north and The Socs are from the South. (The South Side Socs) “―Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next.‖ and ―Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in a while.” (Pony Boy 3) This quote, uses a metaphor by comparing the Greasers to the hood showing, how the two gangs both have similarities and are different from The Socs. …show more content…

At first when Dally arrives with Ponyboy and Johnny he sees the kids and first says; ““I don't like little kids, I just don't like them.” He then walked up to the boys and asked for their cards, next he asked them if they have ever played “pick up”.
