I chose Jem because he plays an important role in Scout’s life. Jem and Scout spend each moment together and I think it is truly special to have your older brother also be your best friend. It is a social normality that the older brother is usually unkind to their little sister, but as Harper Lee tells us about the Finch family and their relationship with one another, it is a widely accepted fact that Jem and Scout are very close and aren’t mean to each other, most of the time. The mood I tried to convey was uplifting. In the beginning of the poem, I started off describing how Jem was growing up and bossing around Scout by saying, “Adult, somethin’ I will be//Somethin’ I will be, soon//“Shut your trap or go home”//I am older, I am wiser//Scout is my inferior.” It creates a sense of unhappiness because Jem and Scout got along well as brother and sister but as he started to age, he started acting unkindly to her, “Shut your trap or go home.” This mood appears throughout the rest of the stanzas by saying, ““Let him go, Scout”//I am …show more content…
