Growing up half White European and half African American Jermaine Lamarr Cole also more commonly known by his artist name as J Cole, struggled with black oppression when he moved from Germany; his birthplace, to North Carolina. J Cole 's father was black and left him and his mother when they moved to North Carolina. Therefore, J Cole grew up with his white European mother who raised him in a decent way where he could get an education and graduate from a University with a degree. However, J Cole 's passion was with music, since he was around twelve years old. At the beginning of the song J Cole calls himself "Hollywood Cole" which to him translates to House Negro, because in the video J Cole plays the role of the house slave. The first scene shows J Cole going into the kitchen and shaking hands with one of the male slaves and looking over the shoulders of the women cooking a full course lunch for their master and his guest. J Cole say the phrase "Get off my dick, woah (Get the fuck off my dick nigga)" J Cole states in his interview with Saint Heron that the phrase is more than just being vulgar and making a statement, its about everyone being up against each other, up against a lot of shit, people doubt others.... Everybody’s always going to have friction. It’s just telling those people to get the fuck off my dick.." Now if you look for a correlation of these words to the video you can find them by relating them to J Cole the house slave and field slaves being tired of being bossed around and treated worse than dogs. They just want the white racist masters to get off their case and let them be free. During the video J Cole takes the keys from the master and managed to get weapons to rebel against his master and make the slaves free, Cole is trying to let the black community know that they " Came here together, you can 't leave without 'em", so they all have to fight together for justice and freedom. Although the main key towards succeeding in their seek for freedom is unity, love also play a big role as he says, "It 's called love, niggas don 't sing about it no more, Don 't nobody sing about it no more, no more" so without the love the equation to success deteriorates the purpose of sticking together to gain true freedom.
