While reading Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer it was interesting but not chronologically in order. Who randomly decides to throw everything away to prove to his parents that he can live without them? Who would throw away all the good things in life and burn their money just to go live in the Alaskan woods to survive for a little? Not very many people would throw away all of those things just to go live in the wild. They most likely would move away from their parents not just leave to somewhere, where no one could ever find them. Although everyone he met had tried to help him out or offer him help but he never accepted anything. He was not kind to his family but to others family he was kind. A man had said, “I tried to scare him with bear stories” (Krakauer 6). He tried to scare him off and make him second guess going to the wild. Something that can not be given and something he can make a point out of. For him I feel like he wanted to prove to his parents that he did not need them and that he can do something with the least amount of supplies and make it. He did not want the riches anymore which is why he burnt everything and only took what was necessarily needed. Through all the people that he met along the way, they all tried to offer him things, whether it be money, food, extra supplies, a home, a job, etc. McCandless accepted most things, but for the most part he did not want much from people.
