For my response paper I chose write about the Disney movie, Enchanted. This fairy tale aired in November 2007. I chose this fairy tale because it begins as an animated movie and as the plot thickens the animation converts into real world. Enchanted is a modern Disney fairy tale about a young maiden named Giselle, that lives in the forest awaiting to meet the prince of her dreams. One day she is being chased by a giant troll and a prince happens to save her. They harmoniously fall in love and are set to be wed. But Prince Edward has an evil stepmother, Queen Narissa, that does not agree with the marriage because this would mean that she would lose control of the kingdom. Another part of this ritual is for two people that are in love with each other to sing and complete their duets. Another ritual in the fairytale is true love’s kiss, as described by Mr. Edward F. Sylvia, “a kiss symbolizes connection and conjunction between truth and love” (thegodguy.wordpress.com). He continues to explain that through this act the person is now able to see things with a deeper meaning. In the fairy tale of Enchanted, Prince Edward realizes that he is not Giselle’s love because he is unable to awaken her from her sleep, Robert is the one that accomplishes this. A third ritual in the fairy tale is looking at a magic mirror, according to Mr. Sylvia this symbolizes “a person who loves themselves more than others” (thegodguy.wordpress.com). In the fairytale of Enchanted, Prince Edward is resting in a hotel room in Manhattan and finds himself talking to the television which he refers to as a Magic Mirror. As the friend of the maiden I would want her to get everything she desires and deserves, to find a prince and receive true love’s kiss. Pimp is not a main character but he does hold an important supporting role. This describes my way of being, I am a bit shy but I make up for this with determination. Fairies, mortals, magic, love, and hate all intertwine to make A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare a very enchanting tale, that takes the reader on a truly dream-like adventure. The action takes place in Athens, Greece in ancient times, but has the atmosphere of a land of fantasy and illusion which could be anywhere. The mischievousness and the emotions exhibited by characters in the play, along with their attempts to double-cross destiny, not only make the tale entertaining, but also help solidify one of the play’s major themes; that true love and it’s cleverly disguised counterparts can drive beings to do seemingly irrational things.

Magic in one way or another affects everyone in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but the perspective with which each character views magic is different. The power of magic is something that is hard to understand, even those who use magic often cannot fully understand magic because in many ways it is irrational and inexplicable.
It tells the story of Princess Aurora, King Florestan's daughter. The fairies have been invited to Aurora's christening, and each one in turn dances and gives a magic present. However, the wicked fairy, Carabosse, interrupts the ceremony and is furious that she wasn't invited. She announces that one day Aurora will prick her finger on a spindle and die. Everyone is horrified, but the Lilac fairy still has her present to give. She modifies the spell so Aurora will not die, but will fall asleep and be woken only by a prince's kiss. At her 16th birthday party, princess Aurora pricks her finger on a spindle brought by Carabosse in disguise and, with the whole court, falls asleep for 100 years. Fairytales, the short stories that most children heard as they went to bed, are actually folktales from previous decades. The fairytales today are primarily adaptations of older versions recreated by Disney— the pioneers of this generation. With that said, the modern versions consistently display good triumphing over evil, a prince charming that constantly came to the rescue, and a happily ever after ending. However, the original folktale version didn’t always come with fortunate events, but often were more violent and gruesome. With the fairytale Cinderella, Disney maintains a similar theme as its Grimm version; however, the conflicts, events, and characters that support this idea are rather different.
There are many fairy tales that have been discussed in this class. The most interesting stories to me are Snow White by Brother Grimm and Ever After: A Cinderella Story directed by Andy Tennant based on Cinderella by Charles Perrault. There are many different versions of Snow White and Cinderella from numerous cultures. In every version, both stories are known as children bedtime stories. In addition, the purpose of both stories is to give a life lesson to the children about overcoming evil to attain happiness. Cinderella’s mother passed away and her father remarried a woman who had two daughters from a previous marriage. A few weeks passed and a prince is holding a three day festival and all the beautiful young girls in the town were invited. Cinderella wanted to go but her evil stepmother gave her two impossible tasks to complete before she could attend the festival. Cinderella completes the two tasks with the help of her bird friends and her mother’s grave. Cinderella goes to the festival and she dances with the prince all three days. Finally, the prince has fallen in love with her and eventually they get married. Fairytales and Disney productions threaten gender politics and women’s role by portraying women in certain areas like domestic behaviors
