Alliances That Triggered World War One

The flash of machine guns and the blare of shells were brand new to the veterans. Both the soldiers on the front and their family at home did not realize how much WW1 would change war forever. WW1, beginning in 1914 and ending in 1918 involved two major parties. The triple alliance, including Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary, and the triple entente, including France, Great Britain, and Russia fought the biggest War that the world had ever seen. We know the story, but when we read the between the pages, what were the underlying causes of the Great War that changed history?

Historians call this the “domino affect” because when Russia entered the war, Germany followed, then France, then Italy and lastly followed by Britain. After this the war was in full swing and many say it was Austria’s fault for the war, but other historians say it was the events before this which also lead to war.

World War I also referred to “The Great War” began in 1914 and lasted until 1918. World War I was started by the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo over who controlled Serbia. Austria soon declared war on Serbia. World War One included the following countries: Turkey, Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary, and Germany in which they were known as the central powers and Japan, Italy, United States, Portugal, France, Britain, Russia, Belgium, Greece, Romania, and Serbia which was known as the Allies power. Unfortunately, World War One didn’t have great technology.

The division of... ... middle of paper ... ...lliance with Germany who also went to war with Serbia. I believe that this was the spark that triggered war and caused it to be declared but not a main long term cause like the alliance system. In conclusion, the causes of World War One included many factors both long term and short term. Some factors go deeper and contributed to the tension and rivalry developing in the nineteenth century among the Great Powers stage. Such as things involving politics, cultures, economics and what I believe to be the most important, the alliance system; lots of other factors tie in with the complex web of alliances.
