World War One was a time of new weapons, new tactics, new strategies, and most of the time this made the difference between living and dying. Militarism and War was complicated so, it is best to have prepared men and be a well put together military. Fighting for a country is one of the highest duties. Remarque was drafted into WWI, and his experiences helped him write the fictional book All quiet on the Western Front. The novel connects to the theme militarism because the reader can see how the soldiers were destroyed by the war like remarque mentioned. Germany was in training for 6 weeks preparing for war. “The first bombardment showed us our mistake, and under it, the world as they had taught it to us broke in pieces. While they continued to write and talk, we saw the wounded and dying. We loved our country as much as they; we went courageously into every action.” (Remarque 12-13) The thesis proves my quote/scene because draws to the Germans. The Germans noticed what was done wrong. The military held unprepared soldiers, this could cause failure and danger, this can also cause many wounded and dead soldiers. To have a strong, big, well developed military you don’t only need weapons and technology etc. to be able to continue to live another day in the military.
