There are roughly seven and a half billion people in this world. How far can an act of kindness go? Throughout life we are taught many lessons and rules on how to live it. One of the main rules we are taught is the golden rule. The golden rule states, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” So, if you do not want someone disrespecting you, then do not disrespect them. It only takes one person to change someone’s attitude for that day, whether it be good or bad. It only takes one person to have a negative attitude to cause everyone around them to also have a negative attitude. So why not be the positive person? It starts out with two young boys, Jake and Roger, who are best friends. One day, Roger saves Jake’s life by pushing him out of the way when a car comes speeding past. Although Jake is fine, Roger then has to go through life not being able to walk correctly. Jake later becomes a star athlete and starts to choose his new friends over Roger. He eventually forgets about him, which leads to Roger killing himself while in the school one day. This event hits Jake hard and causes him to have a new outlook on life. He learns to speak to everyone and to never let anyone feel left out. At one point, Jake is driving home when he sees some of his fellow classmates pushing around one of the “outcasts.” He decides to stop and go help the young man pick up his books that fell on the ground. Whenever I lost one of my friends due to a car wreck, I felt lost and alone. It was one of the hardest things I have ever went through, and I would not want anyone else to have to go through that. I remember the night it happened, I did not know what to do. I did not want to talk to anyone, and I felt like no one knew what I was going through. However, I got a text from one of my friends, who I have known my whole life, the next day asking me if I was okay. She said, “Hey, I know you’re going through a hard time because y’all were so close. I’m here if you need me.” She probably does not know it, but that instantly made me feel better just knowing that she cared enough to take time out of her day to tell me that. I know a lot of people were hurt by this event, but she was the only one of my friends who made sure I was okay. I will always remember her act of kindness, because it gave me some relief that everything was going to be okay even though the circumstances were
