Rape is on the top level in the college girls and women which are the most common crime on college campuses in America today. In the Rape in the United States, 60% of the victim girls and women who reported being raped were under 18 years old by someone they knew. Rape is defined as forces which include vaginal, oral, and anal intercourse, where the survey found that out of 1 in 6 girls and women had experienced acquaintance rape who were underage. Acquaintance rape is a sex crime done by someone who knew the victim (friends, classmate, co-workers, family member, spouse, medical doctor or religious official). The vast majorities in college involve men assaulting women. Based on the U.S Bureau of Justice Statistics a college with 10,000 women students could experience 350 rapes a year. College students are the most vulnerable group as they have the few amount of life experience and in the first starting year freshmen are unknown to each other and they love freedom which makes them do the party that leads to sexual assault. In college girls are targeted because society has labeled girls as damsels in distress where men are viewed as being dominant. Mena is supposed to be strong and powerful, so girls are to be attacked. Trusting someone too quickly and bringing back to girl room or going to male’s room is also one reason of sexual assault in college. College wants to teach both girls and men to become socialize with people but men take advantages of it as they think women are the weaker sex. Another reason is that use of earphones on and girls are not paying attention to what’s around them while walking alone in the middle of the night which being an easy target. Date rape drug is big issues in college which make girls weak and confused so that they are unable to refuse sex or defend themselves. Women don’t report such sexual assault crimes because they are natural nurturers and are taught not to fight back in the society and family because it’s not easy to talk about someone sexually assaulting women whom they know. Many victims of college do not report the crime because of personal and extensive medical tests they must go through to show their case reasonable in a court of law.
