When we think about dreams, we try our best to achieve them. What we don't think about is that dream being unsuccessful or being deferred. People might use metaphors such as, it stinks like rotten meat, or dries up like a raisin in the sun to explain what a deferred dream means . The play “A Raisin in the Sun” is a perfect example of someone's dream being deferred. The movie, following closely to the play, portrays the same idea. There are many similarities between the play and the movie. The people are the same, along with many scenes and occurrences. Both movie and play provide the same concept and message, while differing in some of the events.
The importance of the event where Ruth ended up pregnant with her second child is found in both the movie and the play. On page 35 she began to feel ill and not herself. ...to get the schooling she needed, Ruth to get the house she wanted, and Mamma to see her family happy again. Both the play and the movie talk about the strong unbreakable bond of family. The Younger family have fought and argued but at the end of the day money and trying to make your dreams come true were not the most important thing. The most important thing is family and sticking together. “A Raisin in the Sun” Is an excellent movie and play for talking about a dream being deferred. It is also an excellent movie about family and what it should really mean. Each family member had their own dream that they were working towards and trying to achieve. What they never thought about was that dream being deferred until they woke up one day and had nothing. That did not stop them though from continueing to get up each day and fight in hopes of making that dream come true.
