A sound of thunder is a story filled with fear based on choices. These choices can affect the story drastically. Eckles makes choices based on fear rather than logical thought. During the Safari the crew killed just killed the T-Rex. They were walking back to the machine however Eckles went off the path. “A sound on the floor of the time machine stiffened them and Eckles sat there shivering” P.9 (Online Text). Eckles stepped off the Path and then he accidently stepped on a butterfly. When Travis and the crew found out they told him that he would be left in this time period. Have you ever been transported in time and space? The book, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, transports you to the nineteen thirties in the Deep South. In this book cotton fields fill the landscape and the tension of being an African American family I the south fills every page. The author, Mildred D. Taylor, tells the story of Cassie Logan, a young girl and her family. The character, Mr. L. T. Morrison, was a co-worker of Cassie’s father, David, and later worked for him. Over time, he became a part of the Logan family. Mr. L. T. Morrison is an admirable character in Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, because he helps defend the family, he is hard on the outside but soft on the inside, and is a strong man.
The old saying “The South never dies” appears to be all but accurate in William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury. Each member of the Compson Family is practically a contrary of old southern ideals and beliefs. Caddy’s promiscuity, Benjy’s mental disability, Jason’s vulgar attitude towards his family, Quentin’s crooked obsession with Caddy, Ms. Quentin’s rebellious attitude due to her own upbringing, and Mrs. Compson’s ability to see her children as punishments from God; they all diverge from an idyllic well-ordered Southern family. Mr. Compson was the only member who managed to held on to his Southern Morality for the most part, only straying from the norm after the death of his son, Quentin. Each character in their own way depicts how old Southern ideals of gentility have begun and continue to dissolve.
“A Sound of Thunder” is a story by Ray Bradbury about a man named Eckles that wants to hunt something other than regular animals, so him and a group of people travel back in time to hunt dinosaurs. The leader of the group told all of the people to stay on the floating path when they got there so they don’t kill any plants or insects that could change what happens in the future. Eckles got scared when he saw the dinosaur so he went off the path. When the group got back to the present time the group they found out that they had a different president, that was like a dictator. The leader of the group saw that Eckles stepped on a butterfly. After that the leader shot and killed Eckles. Some of the allusion in “A Sound of Thunder” were when Mr. Travis said, “Christ isn’t born yet” (1029), he also says, “Washington might not cross the Delaware, there might never be a United States at all” (1030), and the last allusion is referencing to the butterfly effect.

Imagine going back millions of years just to hunt a dinosaur. Imagine trekking through the jungle and seeing a gigantic thirty-foot tall ten-ton beast. Shooting at it causes the dinosaur to run forward, and a little step off of the Path in fear causes a catastrophe. “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury proves that making mistakes can cost you more than you ever imagined. Looking into certain aspects of the story will help to define how mistakes came about, and how to solve them.
The Sound and the Fury is a story of sometimes unclear focus. From section to section we listen to three brothers: Benjy, Quintin and Jason, discuss their lives. We discover the inner workings of their home lives. The narratives disclose that their mother, Caroline Compson is a neglectful, hypochondriac. Mrs. Compson is shown to be a very self centered woman who really doesn't harbor any affection for her family and by this lack sends some of them to find mothering from a different source. “ How can I control any of them when you have always taught them to have no respect for me and my wishes I know you look down on my people but is that any reason for teaching my children my own children I suffered for to have no respect.” (Faulkner, 61) We meet Mr. Compson, the father, who is shown to love his children dearly, though in the case of some does not always like them all. He just happens to be an alcoholic, “Father will be dead in a year they say if he doesn't stop drinking and he wont stop he cant stop....” (Faulkner, 79) who is eventually killed by his addictions. Also introduced and discussed are the various household staff members whom the brothers love as if they were family. The brothers discuss horrors and anxieties that they are dealing with in their personal lives. Benjy's horrors of being unable to communicate, being tormented by his brother, Jason, and eventually being castrated due to a misunderstanding cover section one. In section two, Quintin takes his turn to share the anxieties that time and sexuality (among other things) cause him. First of all, I think that Sound and Fury was an appropriate film for us to view and analyze in this class. I enjoyed the lecture given after we viewed it, epically because it was brought to my attention that the follow up film was funded by people who make cochlear implants. We were reminded that not all documentaries are non-fiction or unbiased! I really appreciated that because I love watching documentaries (I think I needed that reminder). I also enjoyed the film, I thought it was interesting because I knew very little about the deaf word before. I have a hearing friend whose parents are both deaf, Sound and Fury made me much more curious about her childhood and how she and her sister developed speech. It also opened my eyes to how important deaf culture can be to deaf people!

However, some thunderstorms produce small amounts of precipitation or none. Colson (1960) explained this phenomenon as a result of high-level thunderstorms with high cloud bases where the appropriate conditions for triggering lightning flashes accompanied by precipitation are situated in the upper levels. Rorig and Ferguson (1999) analysed the synoptic patterns of dry thunderstorms and concluded that low moisture levels in the inferior part of the atmosphere coupled with high instability, leads to the evaporation of precipitation prior to reaching the ground level, this way reducing the moisture content of the underlying surface.
