Walter was depicted as an angry man with the dreams of being a rich man, but he did not need to be a rich man, just a happy man. One of Walter’s very first desires was to be a wealthy man. He confused the concept of being wealthy with wanting to be rich. Being a rich man is a man with money to spare every single hour of the day. To be a wealthy man is to have what he needs to live happily. Walter wanted to invest into the liquor store because he was confused between his wants and his needs. At some point in time when he decided to start a family, Walter merely cherished the idea of a gleeful family . As time went by ,one way or another, Walter became engulfed into the idea that he wanted to be swimming in cash. He not only wanted money,

Walter believes that he does not get enough respect among his family. Inside Walter’s mind somewhere, he wanted ubiquitous people to kiss floor whenever he sauntered. Also deep down inside of Walter, he comprehended that would not be happy pursuing these goals. Walter was questioning who he wanted to be respected by. The end of the play demonstrated he finally realized that he only required to be respected by his family. Along with respect, Walter was often confused about his own pride. One of the reasons of his frustration was due to internal conflict with himself. Walter never understood what pride was. As a result, he eventually stopped thinking and postponed defining pride until a later time. Walter forced himself to believe that pride equaled the whole world revolved around him.
