The story A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Mary Flannery O’Connor will keep you on the edge of your seat. This story covers a variety of characters drawn out with great detail. Each detail provides a vivid picture of them and their surroundings. Not only will each character draw you in they will take you on a journey through the mind of an elderly women who’s mind remembers better times with faith that never strays even when a daunting misfit comes in the picture. The characters in the stories personality shines through as the journey begins. The main character in this story is an inquisitive grandmother who presents herself as a true lady. However, as she remembered the house was actually in Tennessee she startled her cat whom caused them to wreck. The story does an excellent job describing the final scene and plot revolved around The Misfit and an elderly woman who tried to convenience him he could be a good man. The scene from the accident describes the family going off an embankment with a road “ten feet above them seeing only the tops of the trees on the other side. “The woods that lined behind them,” “like a dark open mouth” and a description of three men looking down upon them (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012,p.228). One in particular The Misfit described as “an older man than the other two.” “His hair was just beginning to gray and he work silver-rimmed spectacles that gave him a scholarly look” (Kirszner & Mandell,2012,p.228). He was described as a polite man even though he held a gun. Apologizing for not having a shirt on in front of the ladies as though he wanted to be good. As the man with the gun stood in front of the grandmother she explained, “ I know you’re a good man at heart” almost begging him to see it for himself. As they elderly women and this man continue it makes you wonder will she convenience him that he can still be a good man? Unfortunately, the story did not have a fairy tell ending but it certainly kept you wondering if this insightful woman could convenience a no good felon to be good once more leaving you on the edge of your seat (Kirszner &
