Illegal or Legal Children Children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants should not become U.S. citizens. Many pregnant immigrant women are illegally coming into the country just to have their babies. These women get free medical attention for themselves and the baby. This is costing the U.S. millions of dollars every year. It’s time to end the policy that illegal immigrant mothers can stay in the U.S. just because she has given birth to a child that is now a citizen. These mothers cross the border illegally and they really have no consequences. They are breaking the law and should be punished for it. The presence of a U.S.-born child should not be used as an excuse not to enforce the law. In the U.S. there are between 350-400 thousand children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants each year. This in about 1 out of 10 births in the U.S. is to an immigrant mother. More than 105,000 births in the state were paid for by the taxpayer at a cost of more than $400 million. The child may be a U.S. citizen but, if the mother is not she should have to take her child back with her. When the baby is born in the hospital they have no way or plans of ever paying the bill for those services. The hospital has to treat a mother because it is an emergency situation. This means that the U.S. taxpayers get to pay that bill. On average it costs the taxpayers about five thousand dollars per birth. This is making our medical costs rise and taking away from the Americans t... ... middle of paper ... ...brothers or sisters over here illegally. There is also a whole generation of children who may be illegal aliens and not even know it. They have lived here for as long as they can remember and have been educated in American schools. These children are American. Suddenly, the immigration agents arrive and inform them that they are illegal and are going to be deported back to Mexico. These young people arrive in a country that is foreign to them, with no knowledge of the customs and many do not even know the language. Imagine their shock. They are losing everything that they have known their whole lives. Pregnant mothers should not cross borders illegally for the sake of her unborn baby. In the end it only causes pain and suffrage for everyone involved especially the child. They may be forced to make decisions they are not emotionally ready for and do not understand.
