Explain Stupid Decision
The people in this world have to come to a fork in the road, where people have to make a decision in life. Take buying a candy bar, you are allergic to peanuts but love caramel. That would mean the easy choice would be to choose the Milky Way. Now with such a simple choice in the decision between candy bars people still choose a Snickers which contains nuts even though they are allergic. What would cause a person to make a stupid decision like that? Discovering this answer through watching people may be hard. But looking into the psychological thoughts, which leads to people making a stupid decision is easier then you may believe.
First of all let’s start off by defining a “stupid decision”. Breaking it down is simpler than it appears, this could be done by using the candy bar analogy. However with the help of Google splitting the two words you get the word “stupid” as, “lacking intelligence or common sense,” and the word “decision” as “a conclusion or resolution resolved after consideration.” So to combine these two terms “stupid decision” you would get “a conclusion or resolution resolved after consideration lacking intelligence or common sense.” However this definition is more like a rock in a river with the water running over the top of it. It can be more defined as the characteristic of a stupid decision.
A stupid decision can be defined as the outcome was not the outcome which was intended for. This happens when people do not do the proper research since being stupid means someone lacks intelligence. In conclusion people are prone to making what we define as a stupid decision, sorely on the amount of thought they put into it. This could be done by putting too much thought into a decisions or not enough thought into a decisions. Stupid decisions are a part of human behavior and will never be removed. From teens to intelligence advice will be over looked or taken the wrong way. With the amount of decisions people have to choose between in a life time it is inevitable that they will not have time to put research into the situation that they will eventually make a stupid decision. So the best way for people to not make a stupid decision would be, keep a clear head, and avoid all decision making as much as possible.
An example of this is the dropping of the atomic bomb. While some argue that the Americans had a choice not to drop it, the decision was ultimately made by the president and his advisors. Similarly, the Emperor of Japan made the decision to continue fighting. During the talks of surrender, the Japanese military command rejected the request for unconditional surrender, but there were indications that a conditional surrender was possible (U.S History.org). Despite this, the decision to drop the atomic bomb was made.
Before starting this reading assignment I never thought to question why I make the decisions I do in such a short amount of time. After reading Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, written by Malcolm Gladwell I have a better understanding of how we as individuals perceive and react to information. This book provides insight on how to critically asses and understand the way our minds operate on a deeper level. The book consists of 6 chapters, each providing insight on how the decision making process works and how it affects what we do with every second of the day. Throughout each chapter there are subsections with personal stories, case studies, or examples that help provide an alternative view on how the decision making process is carried out under normal circumstances.
Neither the Branch Davidians, nor the ATF, nor the FBI, were composed of or led by stupid persons. Yet at Waco, all of these groups made extremely bad decisions. One reason for the high-risk, low-quality decisions of the Branch Davidians, ATF, and FBI is that these groups of intelligent individuals could collectively make decisions much worse than the individuals might have made if they had decided alone.
It’s hard to believe how making one decision can impact and shape your life for the future. According to Google, decision-making is the action or process of making decisions, especially important ones. While discussing this important topic, decision-making, I’ve come across some things I’ve learned and how they can impact my life. First, impulsive decisions can lead to bad outcomes. In the short story, The Monkey’s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs, the story is based around the idea; think more about a decision than quickly resolving one. Secondly, deciding to run away from your problems can lead to an even greater one. It has been noted from the text that our perception influences the thinking and decisions we make. It shows that choices differ because of the different understanding that individual have. In addition, our intuition is essential and at many times it provides us with guidance on how to make decisions. However, we can see that this intuition can be misleading at times and therefore the best thing is to evaluate the available evidence before making decisions. If we talk about intuitive decision-making (IDM) we talk about the subjective decisions that are not based on any facts and purely instinctive, for example whether or not to cross the street. These decisions are fast occurring, have no any need for reasoning and are used if facts are unavailable or making a decision is very difficult.

But for the sake of this paper a stupid decision is considered to be in one of three categories as defined by Aczel, Bence, Zoltan, “(1) violations of maintaining a balance between confidence and abilities; (2) failures of attention; and (3) lack of control.” (Aczel) An example of the first category that I have experienced happened during basic training. There was a soldier who dropped a live grenade inside of the bunker he and the safety officer occupied. This soldier was so overly sure in his ability to throw a grenade into a tire that was some distance away that in his preparations to throw the grenade it ended up rolling out of his hand. If not for “social safety nets” that provide a safety officer in the bunker to forcibly remove the solder in case of live munitions being dropped in the bunker , the soldier would have
Indecisiveness is an inner conflict that inhibits a person from choosing a decision and acting on it. This inner conflict is easily relatable; however, explaining the fuel that ignites the conflict is much more difficult. Every human being must make decisions every day. Moreover, some of these decisions are tougher to choose than others. Thinking critically and making decisions are important parts of today’s business environment. It is important to understand how the decision making process works and the steps involved. The nine steps of the decision making process are: identifying the problem, defining criteria, setting goals and objectives, evaluating the effect of the problem, identifying the causes of the problem, framing alternatives, evaluating impacts of the alternatives, making the decision, implementing the decision, and measuring the impacts. (Decision, 2007.) By using various methods and tools to assist in making important business decisions an individual can ensure the decisions they make will be as successful as possible. In this paper it will be examined how the decision making process can be followed using various tools and techniques to make successful business decisions by using these same tools and techniques during a thinking critically business scenario. The paper will also discuss how different tools and techniques could have been used to make different, yet still successful decisions.
I took long time to think before making any type of decision. Taking time to think always help me to make a right decision. I am optimistic, so never believe in failure.

Making decisions is a constant process the human brain makes many times a day, for instance whether to go to the gym or eat McDonalds, go to the bar over studying for a test, or betting “all-in” at a poker tournament with no cards that are able to be played. All of those examples are risky depending on the type of person making those decisions. No one person is the same as the next, so risky decisions are subjective, although there are just some decisions that can be life changing like where to go to college, who to marry, and to have children or not. Also, the context in which the situation is framed plays a huge role on how a person decides what to do. Many influences such as emotions, stress, video games, or even other people’s decisions can ultimately determine the type of decision any individual may make, risky or not.
We make choices every hour, every minute, and every second of our lives; whether big or small our choices are slowly putting us in the direction we choose or end up. Many of us do not realize what contributes to the choices we make and why it affects others the same way if affects us and because of this many authors and writers have written stories and articles about coming to terms with making a choice and how to better ourselves when it comes to decision-making for the future.
