Beckett Brennan was a high school all-American basketball player, renowned for her three-point shooting, and recruited by dozens of top colleges. Her father, Barry, had played in the NCAA finals in 1974, and passed his love of the game on to his daughter. She got a full scholarship to play at the University of the Pacific, for basketball. In May of 2008 she attended a party with her teammates, at which they drank. Later in the night, she got lost from the housing complexes and two men on the basketball team offered her a ride back to her room since she was lost and confused. I believe there are many examples of rape culture everyday. When I googled, “Examples of Rape Culture,” I received 3,910,000 results in 0.32 seconds. 3,910,000 examples of Rape Culture were that easy to find. While not all of these are probably reliable sources, unbiased, or maybe even true, a lot of them do follow the said “Rape Culture.” One website had a list of 21 examples with citations to the examples from real life. Some of these examples included, “ A university in Canada that allows the following student orientation chant: “Y is for your sister. O is for oh-so-tight. U is for underage. N is for no consent. G is for grab that a**,” “ A judge who sentenced only 30 days in jail to a 50-year-old man who raped a 14-year-old girl (who later committed suicide), and defended that the girl was “older than her chronological age,” “Victims not being taken seriously when they report rapes to their university campuses.”. For example, “Catcalling,” is often said to be part of “Rape Culture”. (Cortes, Natalie) Maybe it is, but in my opinion there are much larger examples to be given and that better fit the “Rape Culture”. I believe “Rape Culture,” does exist but society is also trying to relate everyday things to this culture that do not belong, thus, making it over
