When Barack Obama was elected as the 44th president of the United States of America, the Obama family went through a drastic transition in terms of adapting to their new lives they now had to become accustomed to due to their new residency in the White House. Prior to his presidency, Barack and Michelle Obama lived, worked, and raised their family in Chicago, which was birth place of Michelle, and their two daughters Malia-Ann, and Sasha (Natasha) Obama. Malia (10) and Sasha (7) respectively (2009), were used to a regular life living in upper-middle class Chicago until their father (Barack) was elected as president. Their parents (Barack & Michelle) became concerned with their daughters adjustment to living in the White House, seeing that …show more content…
This support that was constantly available to the first daughters from their parents allowed them to “get out of this (terms served) whole, [and] [become] poised, smart, intelligent young women” (Bono, 2016) as described by Michelle Obama in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in September 2016. The President and First Lady put their children’s needs first, in terms of being supportive, understanding and available for their children at all measures. They worried about the negative factors of Presidency, specifically the stress/pressure that might fall on the children, Michelle and Barack himself. Barack Obama, being the first African American President in U.S.A, was subjected to a different type of high-stress, in terms of racist ideologies tainting his abilities and skills to handle the position of Presidency. He too had to juggle being a full-time father and husband to his family- which is highly stressful in itself. But notably, Barack has been known to keep a very calm and in control attitude and …show more content…
He “credited morning exercise and his Hawaiian roots for his ability to keep a calm demeanor in such a high-stress environment, but he noted family is what really keeps him grounded” (Lavender, 2015), he outlines the most important factor of consistently “spending time with family, and when you have dinner with your daughters - particularly teenage daughters - they’ll keep you in your place and they’ll teach you something about perspective” (Lavender, 2015). In which spending time with family and being invested in your children’s lives will keep one grounded in the White House and in life in general. Being the President of the U.S.A, he has found multiple outlets to relieve stress but his family seems to be an essential component in keeping him grounded and humble. When Michelle initially became the potential F.L.o.t.U.S back in 2007, she became overwhelmed with the stress, and stressful environment that she and her family were constantly placed under/in. The “high stress levels and busy lives also made it difficult for us to be completely on point mentally, we’ve not yet embraced the notion that it’s OK for us to take time out for ourselves,… to be quiet and reflect on our lives… I need time to wind down and reflect” (Obama
In the Obama Sandy Hook School Shooting speech, the exigence that Obama talked about was the tragedy of the school shooting. In the speech, he talks about how he is reacting as a parent and not as a president. Obama also talks about how the children had their life ahead of them. He basically said the children were going to become something in life; some were going to get married, and some were going t...
Common stereotypes portray black fathers as being largely absent from their families. Proceeding the emancipation, African Americans were forced to adapt to a white ruled society. Now that they were free, many sought education and jobs in order to provide for their families and achieve their full potential. This caused many African American males to leave their families in pursuit of better opportunities. Obama’s father had left his home to pursue education and study at Harvard University, but Obama only saw his father one more time, in 1971, when he came to Hawaii for a month's visit. Throughout the rest of his life, Obama faced the conflict of belonging, most in part because he didn’t have a father to help him. “There's nobody to guide through
She addresses the children of America as “our children” so that the audience can see the seriousness of the issue. This statement also tells us that most of the audience were African-American people. She specifically mentioned African-American children when she called them “our children”. This audience was easy to relate to for Mrs. Obama as she is an African-American parent. She, like most of the audience, wanted what was best for their children.
President Barack Obama has been a well-known political figure for just over 8 years; he has served two terms as the President of the United States. There has been controversy surrounding the first African American president, after his first term Obama failed to prove to America that he would fix all the things he promised to fix upon election. With his second term he has set in place his views and goals for the country. Obama’s views have been trying to benefit the overall population of American, from the poor all the way to the rich with a few subclasses in-between. During the Inauguration of his second term, won against Mitt Romney. His opponent stood for many things that were conflicting to Obamas platform, while Obama stood for rehabilitating the poor after the recession, Romney wanted to focus on tax breaks for the rich. Throughout the speech given by President Barack Obama, he outlines necessary changes in the system to benefit the people and the need for people to come together as one to have an effective country.
In contempt of Obama’s humble giving spirit, vivid personality, and many accomplishments, a debate is always at hand upon hearing the infamous name Barack Hussein Obama. From his place of birth, religion, and ethnicity Obama’s face a fair share of controversy. At the heels of adversity along with sheer determination to help others Obama became a leader that delivers and one of the most influential people of America. Adversity was introduced to Obama at an early age. With a Kenyan father and Caucasian mother residing in Hawaii, Obama has always stood out in numerous ways. In 1959 Barack Obama Senior was selected from a number of candidates to go to school in the US where he attended The University of Hawaii in Honolulu to
In his opening lines Obama shows his grief for the victims of the shooting stating: ‘I have come here tonight as an American who, like all Americans, kneels to pray with you today, and will stand by you tomorrow.’ In this quote Obama position himself with his people, showing his sympathy and comforts them by saying ‘I will be here for you.’
He wants to move past the racial segregation and move towards a truly unified country, and he uses pathos by talking about the about his upbringing and his life. The use of the descriptions of his youth with a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas shows that he can relate to the common person, seeing as he had to adjust to both sides of his family as well as the stigmas that both sides had. The urgency in which Obama answered the accusations of being similar to Wright, caused the American public to realize he does not have the same mentality. We can accept a politics that breeds division, and conflict, and cynicism."
For many years, American Presidents were viewed as being white and powerful leaders. Why were they only white? Is it because Americans felt Blacks were not smart enough to run a country on their own? African Americans were viewed as less dominate people and have been discriminated because of the color of their skin. In 2008, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States making him the first black president ever. In this paper, I will discuss how Barack makes a change and if America can accept him as our first black president.
Obama emotionally influences the nation to move forward from the issues of race that is hindering America. Without dwelling on his family tree, Obama reminds us that his father was black and his mother white, that he came from Kenya, but she came from Kansas: “I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slave and slave owners — an inheritance we pass on to our two precious daughters. I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles, and cousins, of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents, and for as long as I live, I will never forget that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible.
Barack Hussein Obama also struggled and suffered a lot during his life, but he ended up as the 44th President of The United States of American. He achieved his American Dream, and in his situation it was slightly impossible. Barack Hussein Obama comes from a Muslim family, and he is also black, and his dad is from Kenya, considering the racism in the world today, and the fact that he’s not fully American, achieving what he achieved was almost impossible. Obama showed how America is free and anyone can achieve their American Dream there.
Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have many similarities. Both of their first terms as President were shockingly alike such as, job approval rating difference being only point five percent and the interest in reforming available healthcare to people of lower class. Both President Clinton and President Obama were referred to as black presidents, only because they didn’t uphold the same backgrounds as did the former presidents. Neither Obama nor Clinton had a personal relationship with his father, which meant both grew up in a single parent working household – a reality rare in the time period. Both young Obama and young Clinton grew up aspiring to be great lawyers; they married lawyers Michelle and Hillary, respectively. Clinton, as well as Obama, belong to the Democratic Party. However, despite the many similarities between the two, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama could not be any more different. Former President Bill Clinton proves superior to the current President Barack Obama because of the beneficial strategies he used to improve the United States of America.
He reviled both his personal and family history stating, “I am the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, “I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slaves and slave-owners”, and, I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins, of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents”. As Obama is telling his family background, He shows how and why he has an authority to speak on race issues. It then supports the remarks he later makes about the race issues that are affecting America. By Him revealing his own personal history it allows him to gain ethos by creating a personal connection with his audience. This allows his audience to be a lot more inclined to trust him, and support him if they can make a connection to his speech on a more personal
By placing himself in this role, he creates the impression that as the father figure he is also in a position to give advice and serve as an educator. Obama then goes on to soothe and insure his nation that questioning and reflecting is natural, stating that “When a tragedy like this strikes, it is part of our nature to demand explanations –to try to impose some order on the chaos, and make sense out of that which seems senseless,” and then goes into the role of an educator by telling the story of each of the victims of the shooting. By telling each victim’s story, Obama further elicits an emotional response from the audience by effectively humanizing each person. This further creates a sense of unity, making it seem as if Obama really knew the victims, and making each person more relatable to the audience so that each member of the audience might feel as though any one of the victims could have been their neighbor or beloved family
Obama’s father left him and his mother when he was only 2 years old. Obama then talks about the family he grew up with, his mother and grandparents, and the racism they dealt with at a time when few accepted interracial relations and even more so marriages. He recalls being made fun of as a young child when other kids would make monkey noises when it was discovered his father was from Kenya. He then moves to Indonesia when his mother remarries, but then at 10 years old moves back to Hawaii where he spent his early childhood. It was with his grandparents that he developed much of his character and learned how strongly education was emphasized in his family.
Not only has she graduated from two exceptional Ivy League colleges (Princeton and Harvard), she is also a lawyer. She was raised on the South Side of Chicago, had opportunities to study at prestigious universities, returned to her hometown, married, and raised two beautiful daughters. Unlike Barack, Michelle has two black parents and a black sibling, and she comes from a city readily associated with black life and politics. She even has a family tree that traces back to American slavery. Observers comfortably frame Michelle Obama as angry Sapphire figure, but how is that possible when she is one out of the few mothers who hold degrees from the most reputable schools around the world. Again, her critique was taken as evidence of her ideational anger. Michelle Obama is the most known example of an African American woman who has worked hard to become who she is today and is probably the most idealistic perfect woman. Still the success and difficulty she has experienced in gaining accurate recognition is emblematic, if not typical, of black women’s citizenship struggles. She is still only seen as the stereotypical black woman in the eyes of supremacist even though she has out succeeded the majority of people today. One could assume that Michelle Obama is someone who could be looked to as faultless representation of how black women can achieve and obtain such incredible power. Unfortunately, not even the first lady is respected even with her credentials. For example. there were attempts to frame her with the common trope of hypersexuality. In the heat of the general election fight, Fox News referred to her as “Barack’s baby mama”. Instead she fights strong against these over rationalized comments because she knows she is better than what they say. If Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States, is not recognized as credible, than it is clear that no black woman will ever be
