John Towner Williams is one of many very well know composers. Williams was born on February 8, 1932 in Flushing, Queens, New York City. He is currently 85 years old. His parents are Johnny Williams, and Esther Williams. His siblings are Jerry Williams, Don Williams, and Joan Williams. His spouses are Barbara Ruick, who passed on in 1974, and Samantha Winslow who passed on in 1980. Williams also has three children, Joseph Williams, Mark Williams, and Jennifer Williams. He is a very happy man that has a true love for music. He has left us music to some of our all time favorite movies, and has inspired us to continue on making great film music. I chose to write about John Williams because the Star Wars sequel is one of my most favored sequels; and it is mainly because of it’s music. I have learned most about his achievements, and what movies that I did not know he had produced music for. John Williams is a very happy person, he is also very wise. But, he does like to keep to himself, whereas he is more of an introvert person. Also, most of the music he writes is inspired by classical music from the 1940s. For example, the Star Wars theme song, is almost identical to the 1942 theme song of the movie King’s Row. People have also compared some music of other movies such as: Superman, Home Alone, and Jaw’s to some classics. Loesser’s music reflects American society including relationship practices as well as the heightened sense of nationalism throughout the Depression and the war. Loesser had just entered into Tin Pan Alley music when the depression hit. While the depression played a role economically it did not hinder the cultural advances because people looked to music as a source of entertainment. Due to the popular dances of the time courtship and romantic relationships were a vital part to maintain moral across the nation. Due to the lack of money flow people looked for cheap entertainment like listening to music, radio shows, playing sports, or dancing. John Milton Cage Jr. also known as John Cage was born in Los Angeles, California on September 5, 1912. Although he passed away on August 12, 1992 his legacy as an American composer, music theorist, writer, and artist lives on. Not only was he a participant in a wide variety of music genres but he became the father of indeterminacy in music, electroacoustic music, and non-standard use of musical instruments. Cage also became very active in a lot of contemporary and unique artistry and many of his influences can be found in the works of musicians globally. In class, Jonathan studied the theatre of Bertolt Brecht and Peter Brook. Among his musical influences were JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, the Beatles, Prince, and the Police, but the writer he admired most was Stephen Sondheim, to whom he wrote during his last year in college. The distinguished composer-lyricist answered him and became an adviser to the young songwriter.
Throughout his career and his works with various other artists, Bill Evans has cemented himself as one of the great influences on modern day Jazz. Bill Evans was drafted shortly after he began his music career on tour with Herbie Fields. After three years in the service, he continued on tour while taking graduate school classes at Manne College in New York. At Manne College, he encountered George Russell, a pianist and composer who had a great influence on modal jazz. George Russell wrote Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization, which presented the concept that the Lydian mode had a greater compatibility with tonality than the major scale did.
Director Chris Columbus chose John Williams to compose the music for a promotional reel (John Williams). After Columbus heard the song for the promotional reel, he knew they had to have Williams compose the entire movie (John Williams). Williams created an entire score for the movie and called it “The Harry Potter Suite.” “The Harry Potter Suite” has a song for each important event that happened throughout the film. John Williams adds magic and tells the story of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone through his composed music.

"The Glass Menagerie" is particularly considered the author's most biographical work. It is described by the playwright as "a memory play"; indeed, it is a memory of the author's own youth, an expression of his own life and experiences. Similarly, "Suddenly Last Summer" includes many of Tennesse Williams' real life details.
In Milos Forman’s AMADEUS, the scene involving Mozart’s Requiem is the most significant in the movie. Throughout the film the main protagonist is composer Antonio Salieri, played by actor F. Scott Abraham, who is retelling the story of his musical career along with that of well-known composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, played by actor Tom Hulce, and how both composers intertwined. Both are seen as foils in terms of characteristics Mozart the more brazen and childish at moments. Salieri’s ambitions within the movie involve triumphing over God by making Mozart’s life a living hell. Salieri goes to great lengths to make Mozart look bad behind his back. A firm belief in his musical dream lead him from Roanoke Rapids High School to Full Sail University in New York City where he graduated with a degree in Recording Arts. He also attended East Carolina University to obtain his Business degree. However, his duality eventually caught up with him and sidetracked his musical quest.
Philip Glass’s musical career has been lengthy and essentially truly successful. For most of Glass’s early life he worked in his father’s store where he stumbled about unorthodox Western classical music (Sadur “Biography”). After uncovering this music, Glass began to study music. Once graduated from college, he went on to study composition in New York. However, finding modern music of his time distasteful, he moved to Europe, at the age of 23, where he studied under Nadia Boulanger and worked with composer Ravi Shankar (“Philip Glass: Biography”). While in Europe, Glass also discovered a variety of non-Western music. The style in this newly discovered music began to appear within Glass’s own compositions. John Cage became famous for his unorthodox theories and very experimental compositions. He was an American composer born in Los Angeles on September 5, 1912. Neither of his parents went to college, and John himself dropped out after a mere two years in college. His father earned a living being an inventor. Cage credits his father, being an inventor, as very influential to the way in which he wrote music. John also considered himself as an innovator and discoverer in the field of music. John Cage took traditional classical music and turned it into a futuristic collection of sounds totally different from what everyone was used to. He has expanded the idea of what sounds constituted music, and was the influential impetus behind indeterminacy in music. He is credited with enhancing the thinking of many other modern composers, Philip Glass being one of them.
