My mother gave me the name Gilgamesh at birth. I was born two-thirds god and one-third human. The strength, knowledge, and beauty gave me rights to have power, like a wild bull, whose head was raised over others and no rival was able to strike a weapon against me. Before the events in this story, I was very arrogant person. I saw everything and accomplished all things. I had wisdom and knowledge of all people. I uncovered the secret and brought back “information of the time before the flood” (p.59, line 5). Called the wild bull of Uruk, I was superior to other kings and a hero who defended my people and city. I entered the marital chamber where Enkidu was; we met, kissed and became friends. Enkidu and I went to protect the Cedar Forest. As I lay on the mountain peak overnight, I had a few dreams. I dreamed about the mountains falling on me, a wild bull of the forest, and a loud thunderstorm. These dreams made me lose my courage. This fear was a new experience for me. My muscles were shaking and felt disturbed. Enkidu and I approached Humbaba, feeling full of emotions. It was the feeling of denial, sadness and anger. I did not want to admit that one-third of me was human. I went for the kill. Humbaba begged for his life but I did not listen to him. Enkidu convinced me, as I slayed Humbaba. The killing of the beast was to prove to my people in Uruk that they need not fear the monster. I encouraged the youth in Uruk by showing how to be a great king and have power.
In the forest, we took down the tallest cedar and made a raft. Enkidu steered it and I was holding the head of Humbaba. My return to Uruk seemed reckless. Ishtar was full of rage and sent the Bull of Heavens. Like an expert butcher, I approached the Bull of Heaven and thrust my sword. Enkidu and I killed the Bull of Heaven because the Bull ate all the
