It has been documented that Albert Einstein was once quoted as saying “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” It is my assertion that technology does not make for a less intelligent people. Rather the use of technology allows people to obtain knowledge faster, be more efficient and better able to multi-task. In fact, technology is simply a tool that allows people to perform a variety of tasks and accomplish goals ranging from paying bills to designing and constructing an earthquake resistant buildings.
In order to understand my assertion, one must first understand the true definition of technology. According to the online Merriam-Webster dictionary,

Manual household chores such as washing clothes and dishes, beating rugs and sewing by hand have all for the most part been replaced by washing machines, dishwashers, vacuums and sewing machines. The same is true for manufacturing. For instance, textiles were once produced by hand through a series of arduous steps using simple equipment. However, that changed during the Industrial Revolution when the spinning jenny and the power loom were invented. These innovations along with others allowed for textiles to be produced at a greater volume at a much higher pace with less human power. As our population continues to grow, having technological tools available is more important now than ever. By way of illustration, one only has to think about the diminishing farmland in America. As farmable land has declined and our population has grown, the agricultural industry has developed new systems through technology that enables them to grow larger and hardier crops as well as harvest those crops in ways that allow for maximum nutritional benefit. On an environmental level, the recycling of paper, glass and plastic is an example of how technology has been implemented to help lessen our impact on the planet.
