Personal review

This programme comes later in my life and career, so I have thought at length on my motivation for embarking on this. My main reason - I still strongly believe, even at this mature stage, this will open opportunities that have previously been closed off.

Working for 15 years as a Trainer and Lecturer in Further Education, I have acquired a keener awareness of learners’ personal development needs - which I view as one of my major strengths.

Previously I helped design then delivered a 9-unit training programme (I.T. and Customer Care) which was rigorously scrutinised by City & Guilds and accredited at Level 2. I found that an exhilarating phase and moving from training to teaching was not a calculated decision; nevertheless I have grown as a lecturer – achieving a grade 1 during the college’s last OFSTED inspection. These experiences helped develop my organisation, administrative and some of the research skills, plus, strong communication and interpersonal skills are additional strengths – essential in my current role and will be needed throughout this programme.

Recently I completed both paper-based and online personality tests and the strengths, values and characteristics matched what I have been told of my personality. The questionnaire result is that of an Introverted Sensing Personality type; the dominant traits - dependability, reliability and trustworthiness also a preference for clearly defined roles/responsibilities so that activities and progress can be monitored/assessed in tangible ways.

Reflecting on this process I can now understand the WBS team’s purpose of having candidate’s propose a title, provide a rationale for that title and set out clear aims is to make candidates intimately acquainted with every aspect of the target award. Having to critically examine my weaknesses and threats to completing the WBS 470 negotiated work based learning project, then research, plan and timetable modules; anticipate resources needed and opportunities available means embarking on that module far better informed and equipped to succeed.
Completing this unit has changed the manner that I will approach future tasks as I am now acutely aware of the importance of planning in a structured and defined way and has radically altered the way I way I view CPD.
